The 'red dinner' that lights up the patronal feast of Bosconero
In Bosconero, a small town in the Canavese area near Turin, the feast of the patron saint St. John the Baptist is not just celebrated in church: its most anticipated moment is the Tavolata di San Giovanni, a large outdoor communal dinner that brings together residents and visitors around long tables every year. Organized by the Pro Loco of Bosconero with the support of the Municipality, it has become a tradition that transforms the town into one big street party.
The element that makes this evening truly spectacular is its color theme: red. Organizers invite all participants to wear a touch of red, from a 'Garibaldi red' outfit to a simple shirt, a pair of trousers, or even just a red hat. The result is a sea of color that envelops the tables and creates a unique atmosphere, perfect for photos and memories of the evening.
The heart of the Tavolata is the menu, crafted with ingredients sourced almost entirely from the local Canavese area, following a zero-kilometer philosophy. The culinary journey ranges from appetizers, first and second courses, to a dessert created specifically for the occasion, the 'Red Dessert', which echoes the theme of the evening. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the communal cuisine of this corner of Piedmont in an authentically local setting.
Good food is paired with live entertainment: the evening is enlivened by music that accompanies the dinner and continues with dancing and fun, in the true spirit of a village festival. The Tavolata di San Giovanni is, above all, a moment of community where generations come together and visitors from afar are welcomed like family.
For those who want to experience the most genuine side of the Canavese and its patronal traditions, the Tavolata di San Giovanni in Bosconero is an ideal stop. A simple and warm evening, made of good food, music, and plenty of red, which tells the story of this town in the province of Turin, Piedmont, better than any description.
The 2026 edition of the Tavolata di San Giovanni takes place on Saturday, June 20 in Bosconero, in the province of Turin, to celebrate the patron saint St. John the Baptist. The grand 'red dinner' is held outdoors in the area outside the Pro Loco, moving to the 'Don Manavello' hall in case of bad weather.
Organizers invite participants to wear a touch of red (Garibaldi red outfit, shirt, trousers, or even just a red hat) to make the evening even more evocative.
In case of bad weather, the dinner and festivities will move inside the 'Don Manavello' multipurpose hall.
