The Salento street festival dedicated to sport, health, and inclusion
Tricase is Sport is the event that, every year between late May and early June, turns the town of Tricase in lower Salento (Province of Lecce, Puglia) into a true hub for grassroots sports. Originally a small neighborhood festival, the event has grown into a key local fixture, promoted by the social promotion association Tricasèmia in close collaboration with the Municipality of Tricase and under the patronage of the Province of Lecce.
The event's format goes far beyond simple athletic practice: Tricase is Sport weaves together sporting activities, scientific outreach, and health and social prevention initiatives. The event coincides with the National Sports Day organized by CONI and involves dozens of associations, amateur sports clubs, health professionals, and third-sector organizations from across the Salento area.
The beating heart of the initiative is the Health Citadel, set up in partnership with the Italian Red Cross, where citizens can undergo free screenings, check-ups, and medical consultations. Significant emphasis is also placed on inclusion, with motor skill courses designed for people with disabilities and awareness campaigns against addictions, ranging from smoking to gambling.
The event takes place in various locations throughout the city. From the facilities at Tricase Porto to the Sports Hall, and from the historic courtyard of Palazzo Gallone to the Via Pirandello Municipal Park, each day offers a diverse program:
With completely free access to all activities, Tricase is Sport is aimed at families, children, young people, and enthusiasts, inviting the entire community to rediscover the value of movement as a tool for well-being, social interaction, and cohesion. Set against the backdrop of the charming Salento and the Adriatic coast, it offers visitors to Tricase the perfect opportunity to combine sport, culture, and scenery into a single experience.
The 2026 edition, the thirteenth, was held from May 31 to June 2 under the programmatic theme "Never Give Up," in conjunction with CONI's National Sports Day. Promoted by the Tricasèmia association with the Municipality of Tricase, the Italian Red Cross, and the diocesan Caritas, the event combined sport, health, and social commitment.
Sunday, May 31, at Tricase Porto, featured prevention against addictions with the "Good Game Tent" and free mini-tennis and pickleball tournaments by the Circolo Tennis Tricase. Monday, June 1, the Sports Hall hosted the "Republic Triangular" Under-13 volleyball tournament, while Palazzo Gallone held the conference "Tricase is Health: Health Starts with Prevention." Tuesday, June 2, the grand finale at the Via Pirandello Municipal Park included the ecological bike ride, the Health Citadel for free screenings, motor skill courses for people with disabilities, and exhibitions of yoga, taekwondo, rugby, and dance, closing with freestyle performances on the main stage.
Tricase is located in lower Salento, in the Province of Lecce. By car, it can be reached via the SS 275 (Maglie–Santa Maria di Leuca). The nearest train station is served by Ferrovie del Sud Est; the primary airport is Brindisi–Salento, followed by Bari.
Participation in all activities is free.
Updates and the full program are available on the official Tricasèmia association social media channels on Facebook and Instagram (@tricase_sport).
