The widespread literary festival of the Capo di Leuca, between Alessano and Salento
The Armonia Festival – Narratives in Terra d'Otranto is the premier literary event of the Capo di Leuca, promoted by the Idrusa Bookstore in Alessano and the NarrAzioni Cultural Association, established in 2017 with the stated goal of increasing the number of readers in Salento. Under the artistic direction of writer Mario Desiati, the festival has evolved over the years into a widespread event, spanning villages, historic palaces, and squares in the municipality of Alessano and neighboring towns in the Province of Lecce, Puglia.
Armonia has no single home: it is a festival on the move. Its stages include Alessano, Specchia, Lucugnano, Presicce-Acquarica, Castrignano del Capo, Morciano di Leuca, Santa Maria di Leuca, and even reaches Lecce, bringing leading authors of Italian and international fiction to engage with the public in places steeped in history and beauty. The connection to the territory is the hallmark of the event: reading becomes an opportunity to rediscover ducal palaces, churches, courtyards, and hidden corners of lower Salento.
The festival is much more than a series of presentations: it is an ongoing cultural project involving schools, libraries, municipalities, and volunteers of the Capo di Leuca. The event is supported by the Regional Council of Puglia and collaborates with the Maria and Goffredo Bellonci Foundation and the Premio Italo Calvino. Thanks to this grassroots work, Alessano and the villages of Salento become an open-air laboratory every year where literature becomes a shared experience.
For those visiting Puglia in the summer, the Armonia Festival is a unique opportunity to combine the pleasure of reading with the discovery of the most authentic Salento, far from mass tourism circuits. A public of enthusiasts and curious minds gathers under the stars, between a meeting with an author and a stroll through the whitewashed alleys, to experience culture as an integral part of the landscape.
The 12th edition of the Armonia Festival opened on Sunday, May 10th, with a preview at the Ducal Palace of Presicce-Acquarica, featuring guests Stefano Petrocchi, Mario Desiati, and Jana Karsaiová. The festival was officially presented on May 16th at the Turin Book Fair, at the Puglia Region stand.
From May 21st to 24th in Specchia, the Salento stop of the Strega Tour with candidates for the 80th edition of the Premio Strega; on June 27th and 28th at Palazzo Comi in Lucugnano, the focus on the Premio Italo Calvino with Monica Acito, Mariapia Veladiano, Loretta Franceschin, and Beatrice Salvioni. On July 12th, the Mediterranean Discourses in Santa Maria di Leuca.
Between July and August, the Armonia Off section enlivens the evenings of Alessano and Castrignano del Capo with meetings and presentations. The event concludes on October 2nd-4th in Santa Maria di Leuca with «Pitch on the Beach», a new format dedicated to emerging female voices in fiction.
Alessano is located in lower Salento, in the Province of Lecce. By car, it can be reached via the SS275 (Montesano-Alessano exit). The nearest train stations are those of the Ferrovie del Sud Est; the reference airport is Brindisi-Papola Casale, followed by Bari-Palese.
Events take place in several municipalities of the Capo di Leuca: Alessano, Specchia, Lucugnano (Palazzo Comi), Presicce-Acquarica, Castrignano del Capo, Santa Maria di Leuca.
Most meetings are free to attend. For the updated program, times, and any reservations, please consult the official website associazionenarrazioni.it or the festival's social media channels. Info: [email protected].
