A widespread Christmas celebration in the historic center of Supersano

Christmas through the Village Streets is the major Christmas event in Supersano, a small town in the Province of Lecce nestled within the Salento Serre in Puglia. Throughout the holiday season, the historic center turns into a luminous path full of color, emotion, and tradition: the streets, alleys, and squares of the town light up with decorations and artistic installations, inviting residents and visitors to stroll slowly and rediscover the intimate, authentic atmosphere of a community Christmas.
The heart of the event is the participation of the locals: over fifty families from Supersano contribute every year to the setup, creating handmade decorations, wooden artifacts, and papier-mâché ornaments, an art form typical of the Salento tradition. The result is a completely widespread experience where every corner of the village tells the story of the creativity and passion of those who live there. Local papier-mâché masters and volunteers also collaborate on the installations, signing off on the most evocative scenery.
Alongside the lights, the calendar features theatrical performances by local actors and associations, animating the streets with tales dedicated to the universal values of Christmas, love, and peace. Special attention is reserved for children and families, with festive moments, creative workshops, and activities designed for their well-being and happiness. The event, promoted by the Municipal Administration of Supersano and the Tourism Department, is free to enter.
Born as a local initiative, Christmas through the Village Streets has become, in just a few editions, one of the most appreciated Christmas events in Lower Salento: the 2024 edition recorded over 15,000 visitors, also generating significant economic benefits for the local food, wine, and hospitality businesses. A success that confirms how, even in a small town, community cohesion can bring to life an event capable of attracting audiences from all over Salento.
The best way to enjoy Christmas through the Village Streets is to dedicate an evening to a leisurely stroll through the illuminated streets of Supersano, perhaps pairing the visit with a discovery of typical Salento flavors in the town's eateries. The event runs throughout the holiday period, from the official lighting ceremony until Epiphany, offering multiple opportunities to return and discover new details each time.
The 2026 edition of Christmas through the Village Streets in Supersano is expected during the usual Christmas period, but official dates have not yet been announced. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to animate the historic center of the Salento village with lights, papier-mâché installations, decorations created by local families, and theatrical performances by local associations. The detailed program will be published by the Municipal Administration in the weeks leading up to the event.
