The world's oldest mountain film festival

The Trento Film Festival is the longest-running international film event dedicated to mountains, adventure, and exploration. Founded in 1952 in the capital of Trentino-Alto Adige, it takes place every year between late April and early May in the heart of Trento, bringing together directors, mountaineers, writers, and explorers from dozens of countries for ten days. It is the absolute benchmark for anyone who loves storytelling from the high altitudes.

A rich, international program

Each edition features over one hundred films selected from around the world, organized into an International Competition and numerous thematic sections. The jury awards the famous Genziane (Gentians) — the Golden Gentian Grand Prix City of Trento for the best film, the CAI awards for the best mountaineering film, and the City of Bolzano award for the best exploration or adventure film — which represent prestigious recognition in the mountain cinema landscape.

More than just cinema

The Trento Film Festival is much more than a film festival. The program includes:

• MontagnaLibri, the international mountain publishing exhibition, featuring presentations, meetings, and new voices in high-altitude literature;
• T4Future, the section dedicated to new generations with over one hundred events for schools and families;
• photography and art exhibitions set up in various city spaces;
• meetings with special guests, from mountaineers to intellectuals;
• an annual thematic focus dedicated to a country or a theme of mountain culture.

Venues in Trento

Screenings and events enliven various locations in the Trentino capital: the Multisala Modena, the Supercinema Vittoria, the Teatro Sociale, the Sala della Filarmonica, Palazzo Roccabruna, the MUSE - Science Museum, and other halls in the historic center. This widespread presence makes the festival an experience that involves the entire city.

A cultural heritage of Trentino

With over seventy years of history, the Trento Film Festival is an integral part of the cultural identity of Trentino and its alpine vocation. Organized in close collaboration with the Municipality of Trento, the Autonomous Province of Trento, and the Italian Alpine Club, it has helped spread the culture of mountains, exploration, and respect for the natural environment worldwide. Through initiatives like TFF 365 and TFF Bolzano, the event continues its activities throughout the year and beyond the borders of the capital.
