The extra virgin olive oil festival in the seaside village of Trappeto
TrappetOlio Experience is the food and wine event that transforms the historic center of Trappeto—a seaside village in the Province of Palermo, Sicily—into a grand celebration of extra virgin olive oil and local products. Overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare, the town showcases its rural soul and olive culture through tastings, performances, and cultural gatherings.
The festival winds through the squares and alleys of the village—from Piazza Umberto I to Piazza Marina, up to the Belvedere and Via Marco Polo—featuring exhibition stands of local producers, EVO oil tastings paired with ancient grain bread, agricultural supply chain displays, and guided tours of the historic center. There are also technical talks on extra virgin olive oil, its cultivars, production methods, and health benefits.
The program alternates between culinary moments and entertainment: show cooking with local chefs, roaming circus performances, educational-creative workshops, games, and inflatables for children. As evening falls, the village comes alive with DJ sets and live concerts, bringing Sicilian rhythms, Mediterranean sounds, and contemporary influences to the square.
TrappetOlio Experience is the result of a collaboration between the Municipality of Trappeto, local associations, and the Pro Loco Trappetum Cannamelarum, with the support of the Regional Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Mediterranean Fisheries. The event highlights small-scale local production and tells the story of a village that makes the olive tree and the sea its most authentic symbols.
The fifth edition of TrappetOlio Experience took place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, featuring a new spring schedule and a renewed format. The day began at 4:00 PM in Piazza del Belvedere with the technical talk "EVO Oil: Cultivars, Production, and Health," while educational-creative workshops, games, inflatables, and cotton candy for children kicked off in Piazza Marina.
From 5:00 PM, exhibition stands opened in Piazza Umberto I, offering tastings of extra virgin olive oil from local producers, ancient grain bread, agricultural supply chain displays, and guided tours of the historic center and the Belvedere. At 6:00 PM, the spotlight turned to show cooking and roaming circus performances, while the "Aperalivo" offered a culinary journey featuring pasta with sardines, bruschetta with EVO oil, olives, warm bread drizzled with local oil, and a glass of Sicilian wine.
From 6:30 PM, the village lit up with DJ sets in Piazza del Belvedere and Via Marco Polo, concluding in the evening with a concert by the trio "Le Teste di Moro", blending Sicilian rhythms, Mediterranean sounds, and contemporary influences. The free-admission event was promoted by the Municipality of Trappeto and local associations with the support of the Regional Department of Agriculture.
Trappeto is located along the Tyrrhenian coast of the Province of Palermo, on the Gulf of Castellammare. By car, it can be reached via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway (Trappeto-Balestrate exit). The nearest train station is Trappeto, on the Palermo-Trapani line. The reference airport is Palermo "Falcone-Borsellino" in Punta Raisi, about 30 km away.
Admission to the event is free. Events take place in the historic center, generally from the afternoon until late at night. Some activities (such as the "Aperalivo" and guided tastings) may require a contribution or reservation.
We recommend comfortable shoes for walking through the village's alleys and squares. Trappeto offers the chance to combine the festival with a walk along the seafront and a visit to the Gulf of Castellammare coast.
