Hosted in the halls of the Palazzo d'Aumale - Regional Museum, a 19th-century building overlooking the seafront of Terrasini, in the province of Palermo, the Ancient Grains Festival is an autumn event that celebrates Sicily's cereal heritage. For a few days, the museum becomes a vibrant space where the public is invited to rediscover Sicilian ancient grains—native varieties such as Tumminia and Perciasacchi—as emblems of tradition, biodiversity, and food culture.
The heart of the event is the "Grain's Journey: From Field to Table" path, a sensory itinerary featuring exhibitions, storytelling, and tastings designed to introduce visitors to the Sicilian grain supply chain, from the ear of wheat to the oven. The goal is to convey the value of an identity-defining product, linked to the territory and the Mediterranean diet, and a form of cultivation that combines quality, sustainability, and peasant memory.
The program weaves together taste, culture, and education. Recurring festival offerings include:
Alongside gastronomic and cultural activities, the festival features live entertainment, with musical performances that enliven the evenings and help create a convivial atmosphere, bringing residents and visitors together in a celebration centered around grain.
Overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare, Terrasini is a coastal town in the province of Palermo, Sicily, known for its seafront and the heritage preserved in the Palazzo d'Aumale. The Ancient Grains Festival is part of a territory that has made pasta and native grains a hallmark of its identity, promoting the local supply chain and the island's cereal biodiversity.
