The event honors the vaconza, a soft, fragrant bread roll—known elsewhere as vastedda or muffoletta—which has become the symbol of a community deeply rooted in the land and olive cultivation.
The vaconza is a round, fluffy, and fragrant bread roll, traditionally seasoned for the occasion with new olive oil pressed from the valley's ancient trees. Local tradition offers it in several variations: with oil and fresh ricotta, with sausage and cavoliceddi ("ca sasizza e cavuliceddi"), or simply enhanced by the flavor of freshly pressed oil. It is a humble yet iconic food that captures the scents of the Sicilian countryside and the profound bond between the town and its local produce.
During the festival, Via Roma and the historic center become the beating heart of the event. The streets are lined with food stalls and stands run by local businesses: dairies, wineries, bakeries, butchers, and farmers showcase the excellence of the Jato Valley. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of production sites, tastings of local specialties paired with a glass of local wine, show cooking, and traditional sweets like panuzzi di San Martino paired with Zibibbo wine.

San Cipirello, together with the nearby town of San Giuseppe Jato, forms a curious double enclave within the municipality of Monreale. Founded in 1838 following a landslide that struck San Giuseppe, the town has maintained a strong agricultural vocation and a genuine cuisine based on oil, cheese, wine, and local produce. Today, the Vaconza Festival is the event that best represents this heritage, attracting visitors from across the Alto Belice Corleonese area and the Province of Palermo.

By car, it can be reached via the A29 motorway (exit toward San Giuseppe Jato) or via the SS624 Palermo-Sciacca road. The festival takes place along Via Roma and in the town's historic center.
