The literary festival of Trapani at the Fardelliana Library
TrapanIncontra is the literary festival of the Municipality of Trapani, in Sicily, which for several years has enlivened the cultural spring of the provincial capital. Promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality and organized in collaboration with the Fardelliana Library, the festival is curated by journalist and writer Giacomo Pilati, who designs its thematic path each year.
The formula of TrapanIncontra is that of a series built around a title and a guiding idea that runs through all the events. Each evening is dedicated to an author who presents their most recent book and engages in a dialogue with the curator and the public, weaving together reading, current affairs, and civic reflection. Over the years, the festival has featured programs dedicated to female voices in literature and, in the 2026 edition, to the theme of reconstruction and the care of words.
The heart of the event is the Fardelliana Library, one of the oldest cultural institutions in the city, which hosts most of the meetings. Its halls, in the historic center of Trapani, become for a few weeks a place for open discussion, where the community gathers around books. Some particularly popular events are hosted in other city venues, such as the Teatro Tonino Pardo.
TrapanIncontra has brought numerous prominent figures from the Italian publishing scene to the city: writers, poets, journalists, and public speakers who take turns on stage to share their works. The festival combines well-known names with emerging voices, with a particular focus on the relationship between literature, society, and the Sicilian territory.
With free admission subject to availability, the festival serves as an opportunity for cultural growth accessible to everyone. Its continuity has made it one of the reference literary events in Western Sicily, capable of attracting readers, students, and book lovers to Trapani throughout the spring.
The 2026 edition of TrapanIncontra, the 8th, was titled "Rebuilding – The Care of Words" and consisted of eight meetings at the Fardelliana Library in Trapani, from February 20 to April 29, generally at 6:00 PM.
Each evening was dedicated to a value to be rebuilt. The program featured Simone Tempia (kindness), Sabrine El Mayel (beauty), Lucio Luca (memory), Davide Rondoni (peace), Cathy La Torre (words), Angelo Piero Cappello (myth), Alessandro D'Avenia (destiny, in an event hosted at the Teatro Tonino Pardo), and Matteo Nucci (love).
The festival, promoted by the Municipality of Trapani with free admission, confirmed its role as a reference point for the local public, closing with a positive turnout.
The meetings are held primarily at the Fardelliana Library, in the historic center of Trapani; some events may be hosted in other city spaces such as the Teatro Tonino Pardo.
The festival takes place between February and May, with events generally scheduled in the evening (6:00 PM).
Free admission subject to availability.
Trapani can be reached by train and bus from the main Sicilian cities; the Trapani-Birgi airport serves various national routes. The historic center, where the library is located, is easily walkable.
