Two weekends in June featuring handmade tortelli and grilled steaks in the heart of the Grosseto Maremma
In the quiet hamlet of Arcille, located on the plains on the right bank of the Ombrone river, within the Municipality of Campagnatico (Grosseto province, Tuscany), the Tortello and Steak Festival is one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the early Maremma summer. For two weekends in June, the festival area transforms into a large, convivial gathering place where you can enjoy the iconic dishes of local peasant cuisine.
The signature dish of the event is the handmade ricotta and spinach tortello, one of the most beloved specialties of the Tuscan tradition, served in various ways: with meat sauce, wild boar sauce, or simply with butter and sage. Alongside the tortello, the other great star is the grilled steak, cooked over embers according to authentic Maremma tradition.
The menu is completed by other local offerings:
Every dish is prepared by local volunteers, following recipes rooted in the genuine cuisine of the Maremma, using local ingredients.
Arcille is a small hamlet that developed during the 20th century, following the reclamation of the Maremma plains and the land reform initiated in the 1950s. Despite its small size, the village is particularly lively when it comes to food festivals: in addition to the Tortello and Steak Festival in June, the Piglet and Steak Festival is held in the spring, and the Porcini Mushroom Festival in the autumn. The local associations, A.S.D. Campagnatico Arcille and the Associazione Festeggiamenti Arcille, organize these events and keep this tradition alive.
More than just a food stand, the festival is a meeting point for the entire Arcille community and visitors arriving from the surroundings of Grosseto. You dine outdoors, in a familiar and relaxed atmosphere, amidst the aromas of the grill and freshly rolled pasta. It is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Tuscan Maremma far from the main tourist routes, where the quality of the food and the village hospitality make all the difference.
The Tortello and Steak Festival of Arcille returned in 2026 with two weekends of festivities: Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, followed by Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14. The food stand followed the usual schedule, opening on Saturday evenings for dinner and on Sundays for lunch.
The menu featured the event's great classics: handmade ricotta and spinach tortello served with meat sauce, wild boar sauce, or butter and sage, grilled steak, pici with sauce, grilled meats, and wild boar stew cacciatora style.
Full details on times and any musical evenings are shared by the organizers on the festival's social media channels closer to the event.
The festival takes place over two weekends in June. On Saturdays, it is open for dinner only; on Sundays, for lunch only.
Arcille can be reached by exiting the expressway at Grosseto Est, continuing for about 10 km towards Scansano, and then taking the turnoff for Arcille (another 3 km approx). Traveling by car is the most convenient option, given the village's location in the Maremma countryside.
Entry to the festival area is free; you pay for what you consume at the cash desk. For information and table reservations, call 348 7951451.
