The Torrese Fair is one of the most deeply rooted events in the calendar of Torre Santa Susanna, a town in the province of Brindisi nestled in the countryside of Salento, in Puglia. Every year, at the beginning of September, the town center transforms into a large open-air market that blends commerce, craftsmanship, and popular tradition. The fair has its roots in a long history of local mercantile gatherings and, now over thirty years old, continues to attract visitors from neighboring towns.
On the day of the fair, the streets and squares of Torre Santa Susanna fill with stalls. Alongside traditional market vendors, you will find craft stalls featuring handmade products, wooden and ceramic items, textiles, and small souvenirs. It is a perfect opportunity to stroll through the stands, browse, and rediscover local trades and crafts in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire town.
A major star of the Torrese Fair is Salento gastronomy. Food stands offer local specialties such as frise, pasticciotti, and taralli, along with other typical Puglian products. There is no shortage of opportunities to taste the genuine flavors of local peasant cuisine, including traditional desserts and classic dishes.
The day is accompanied by folk performances and moments of folk music, with the sounds of pizzica and taranta enlivening the squares. In the evening, the festival continues with entertainment and shows, in a setting that unites generations and keeps the cultural identity of Salento alive.
The Torrese Fair is organized by the Pro Loco of Torre Santa Susanna, which oversees the layout of the spaces and the day's program every year. Admission to the event is free, and the fair traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of September, involving local merchants, associations, and volunteers.
