The autumn festival in the Palombaro district of Campi Salentina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Chestnut Festival is one of the most cherished autumn traditions in the Palombaro district, a popular neighborhood in Campi Salentina, located in the heart of northern Salento in the province of Lecce. Every year, in the charming small square of Via Puglia, the local community gathers for a simple and authentic event, born from the residents' desire to share a moment of celebration centered on the iconic fruit of autumn.
Unlike large commercial festivals, the Palombaro Chestnut Festival retains an intimate and family-friendly character. The chestnuts, provided by the neighborhood committee and the residents themselves, are distributed free of charge to all attendees: a gesture of sharing that reflects the district's spirit of solidarity. Here, the chestnut is not just a typical treat to enjoy, but a true symbol of resilience, hidden virtues, and unwavering faithโvalues that the small community holds dear.
The evening comes to life at sunset, when the square fills with the aroma of roasted chestnuts and specialties of Salento cuisine. The program combines gastronomy with live entertainment: students from the Laboratori Musicali accompany the festivities with musical performances, while the Dance for you school presents folk and traditional dances that engage both adults and children. A convivial atmosphere that transforms a neighborhood street into a small open-air stage.
Campi Salentina is a lively town in the Salento area of Lecce, known for its patronal feasts and a busy calendar of popular events that mark the seasons. The Chestnut Festival is part of this rich tradition of neighborhood celebrations, which strengthen neighborly bonds and pass on the joy of conviviality to new generations. The initiative is supported by the Province of Lecce, the Municipality of Campi Salentina, and the Union of Municipalities of Northern Salento.
Free and open to everyone, the Palombaro Chestnut Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover the most authentic and popular soul of Puglia's Salento, far from the usual tourist circuits. Between a roasted chestnut and a group dance, residents and visitors share an evening dedicated to tradition, good food, and the typical hospitality of Salento.
