The Torremaggiore Carnival featuring floats, costumes, and music
Torremagia Carnival is the signature event through which Torremaggiore, a town in the Alto Tavoliere area of the province of Foggia, celebrates the Carnival season. Promoted by the Municipality of Torremaggiore, the event transforms the main streets of the town center for an afternoon into a long, colorful procession, where allegorical floats parade through the crowds alongside costumed groups and individual masks in a festive atmosphere that delights both young and old.
The heart of the day is the allegorical float parade. The gathering of floats and costumed groups is scheduled for the early afternoon, after which the procession moves through the city streets. The route winds through some of Torremaggiore's most famous roads before converging on Corso Italia, where the grand finale of the festival takes place.
Schools of all levels, associations, informal groups, parish groups, and individual citizens are all welcome to participate in the parade. A jury evaluates the participants and awards prizes in the individual mask, costumed group, and allegorical float categories, taking into account the craftsmanship, originality of the theme, use of recycled materials, and the complexity of the designs.
With the arrival of the floats on Corso Italia, the festival reaches its climax: a music and entertainment show designed specifically for children and families, closing the day with live concerts and performances. It is the moment when the entire community gathers in the square to share in the lighthearted spirit of Carnival.
Torremagia Carnival is, first and foremost, a participatory and free event built through the dedication of numerous local entities: preschools, kindergartens, cultural and sports associations, scout groups, and local volunteer organizations. This collective spirit is the hallmark of the event, capable of uniting different generations around the traditions of Carnival.
Situated in the northern Daunian Sub-Apennines in Puglia, Torremaggiore is a town rich in history, famous for the Ducal Castle De Sangro and the nearby ancient Fiorentino archaeological site. Experiencing Carnival here means discovering the authentic and welcoming face of the Capitanata region, amidst popular traditions, excellent cuisine, and Daunian hospitality.
The 2026 edition of Torremagia Carnival was held on Monday, February 16, in Torremaggiore, promoted by the Municipality with the enthusiastic participation of local schools, associations, and groups.
The gathering of allegorical floats and costumed groups took place at 3:30 PM on Via De Gasperi, in front of the Emilio Ricci school. The procession then paraded along Viale Aldo Moro, Via Giambattista Vico, and Corso Giacomo Matteotti, arriving at Corso Italia.
There, at 7:00 PM, the day concluded with the final music and entertainment show: the concert for children and families with Special Guest + HUNTRIX brought this carnival edition to a festive close.
Torremaggiore is located in the province of Foggia, in the Alto Tavoliere area. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Poggio Imperiale or San Severo exit) and the regional state roads. The nearest train station is San Severo, on the Bologna-Lecce line, from where you can continue by bus or taxi.
Participation in the parade and the final show is free. The events take place outdoors along the streets of the town center and on Corso Italia.
As this is a family-oriented event, it is the perfect opportunity to bring children in costume. We recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Torremaggiore for updated schedules and the final route.
