About The Great Terroirs of Barolo

In Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, Go Wine presents The Great Terroirs of Barolo: a weekend entirely dedicated to the king of Piedmontese wines and its Additional Geographical Mentions (MGA). In the halls of Palazzo Martinengo, dozens of wineries await you at tasting tables, accompanied by guided masterclasses and a special guest from another great Nebbiolo or Sangiovese territory. A unique opportunity to understand, glass by glass, how different crus and sub-zones shape the soul of Barolo.

Barolo interpreted through its terroirs

The Great Terroirs of Barolo is the event conceived and organized by the Go Wine association, which every year, at the end of winter, transforms Monforte d'Alba into a capital of Nebbiolo. We are in the heart of the denomination, in the province of Cuneo, within the UNESCO-listed Piedmontese Langhe: the historic village welcomes enthusiasts, professionals, and the curious for two days of tastings that focus on a precise theme: the Additional Geographical Mentions (MGA), the official crus that fragment Barolo into a galaxy of different terroirs.

Focus on Additional Geographical Mentions

The guiding idea of the event is simple and fascinating: to explain, through tasting, how the same grape variety can tell the story of profoundly different territories. Cannubi, Brunate, Bussia, Cerequio, Bricco San Pietro, Margheria, Fossati, Castelletto: behind the names of the MGAs lie exposures, soils, and microclimates that give Barolo its unique nuances. The event invites you to compare these expressions side by side to grasp the concept of cru as applied to the Langhe.

Tasting tables

The heart of the event is the tasting tables, where wineries present their labels directly to the public. The selection ranges from historic producers to emerging estates from the Barolo municipalities: Monforte d'Alba, Barolo, La Morra, Serralunga d'Alba, Verduno, Castiglione Falletto, Novello, Roddi, Diano d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, and Cherasco. Direct dialogue with the winemakers is an essential part of the experience: you taste, you ask, you learn.

Masterclasses and special guests

Alongside the tables, the program offers masterclasses and tastings led by prominent speakers from the world of Italian wine, as well as in-depth sessions dedicated to new vintages. Each edition also hosts a guest territory—another great Nebbiolo or Sangiovese area—for a stimulating comparison with the Barolo of the Langhe.

Why it's worth the trip

For wine lovers, The Great Terroirs of Barolo is much more than a fair: it is a lesson in the geography of taste in the town that gave birth to some of the most coveted bottles in Piedmont. A spring appointment that combines the oenological culture of the Langhe with the charm of a medieval village, in a weekend to be experienced at a leisurely pace, glass in hand.
