Two evenings of taste, tradition, and entertainment in the heart of the Nissena region of Sicily
The Flavors of Sommatino is a food, wine, and cultural festival that brings the town of Sommatino to life in the heart of the province of Caltanissetta, Sicily. Designed to showcase local excellence and promote the region, the event transforms the town center into a vibrant stage of taste, music, and folk traditions, open to all residents and visitors.
The common thread of the event is traditional Sicilian cuisine. Throughout the evenings, you can taste the specialties that define the town's identity: arancine, cannoli, almonds, granitas, and other local delicacies. Sommatino boasts a strong agricultural culture linked to the production of wheat, grapes, and olives, with high-quality oil and a rich almond-based pastry tradition that provides the perfect backdrop for a festival dedicated to taste.
Alongside the food stalls, the program offers live music and evening shows designed to engage audiences of all ages. The town squares become meeting places for celebration, featuring musical performances, comedy, and entertainment that continue late into the night, capturing the convivial atmosphere typical of Sicilian village festivals.
The festival is part of the initiatives funded by the regional program "La Sicilia che Piace", which allocated a grant of 18,000 euros to the Municipality of Sommatino for the event. This support confirms the attention paid to small communities in the Sicilian hinterland and the desire to promote the gastronomic and cultural excellence of the Sicilian Region.
The setting for the event is Sommatino, a village in the Nissena hinterland linked to the history of sulfur mines: until the 1960s, it was known as "the town of sulfur," thanks to the famous Trabia-Tallarita mine, one of the oldest and richest in Sicily. Today, that mining memory coexists with the town's religious and popular traditions and a rustic cuisine that the Flavors of Sommatino festival helps to rediscover and pass on.
The The Flavors of Sommatino festival was held on June 20 and 21, 2026, spread over two evenings open to the entire community.
The evening of Saturday, June 20 featured tastings of traditional Sommatino specialties, including arancine, cannoli, almonds, granitas, and other delicacies, with musical entertainment by the group Quelkedcesare, whose popular repertoire had the audience singing and dancing.
The day of Sunday, June 21 continued with tastings and local products, accompanied by a musical show featuring five female voices dedicated to the greatest hits of Italian and international music. The grand finale was entrusted to comedian Massimo Spata, for an evening of laughter and joy.
The event takes place in June, spanning two evenings.
