The green gold of Mazzarino
The Extra Virgin Olive Oil Festival is a celebration of one of the most authentic treasures of Mazzarino, an ancient feudal village perched at an altitude of 553 meters in the Province of Caltanissetta, in the heart of Sicily. For three days, the historic center and the central Piazza Vittorio Veneto become the stage for a journey through taste and tradition, an event that weaves together flavor, culture, and rural memory to discover one of the most precious gems of the Nisseno region.
A millenary tradition
The territory of Mazzarino is part of the production area for the "Colli Nisseni" Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) oil, a mark of quality recognized throughout Italy. Here, native cultivars such as Moresca, Nocellara, and Biancolilla produce an oil with a fruity aroma, a harmonious taste, and a slightly spicy finish: the authentic symbol of a centuries-old olive-growing tradition passed down from generation to generation.
Three days of experiences
The event offers a program rich in sensory and cultural experiences:
- Guided tastings of new oil and local specialties
- Guided tours of local mills to discover the oil production cycle, from harvesting to pressing
- Walks through the olive groves and meetings with producers
- Food stalls featuring traditional Sicilian cuisine
- Live music, folklore, and convivial moments dedicated to Sicilian olive culture
A community celebration
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Mazzarino APS in collaboration with the Municipality of Mazzarino, local producers, and the Istituto Carafa (with its Agricultural and Hospitality sections), which participates with demonstrations and tastings. This synergy between institutions, schools, and the agricultural sector enhances local products and strengthens the bond of the Mazzarino community with its roots. Rich in fine Baroque architecture and over twenty-five churches, Mazzarino welcomes visitors in a setting of great charm, amidst noble palaces and squares from its 18th-century urban layout.
Mazzarino Olive Oil Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil Festival in Mazzarino is scheduled for November 2026, following the successful first edition of 2025. At the moment, the precise dates and the detailed program have not yet been announced by the Pro Loco Mazzarino APS and the Municipality of Mazzarino.
Based on the previous edition, a new three-day event is expected in Piazza Vittorio Veneto with guided tastings of the DOP Colli Nisseni oil, visits to local mills, food stalls, and moments of music and folklore. The program will be published on the organizers' social media channels in the weeks leading up to the event.

How to get there
Mazzarino can be reached by car via the SS117bis and the provincial roads of central Sicily; the nearest airports are Catania-Fontanarossa and Comiso. A car is recommended, given the inland location in the province of Caltanissetta.

Access to the event and exhibition areas is free; tastings and traditional dishes are offered by the stalls at affordable prices.
