Wooden chalets, local crafts, and festive flavors in the heart of Licata

When December arrives, the historic center of Licata, a seaside town in the province of Agrigento overlooking the Sicilian Sea, transforms into a small Christmas village. The Christmas Markets are one of the most anticipated events of the cold season: rows of illuminated wooden chalets bring one of the city's main squares to life—traditionally Piazza Progresso—with displays that change from year to year and may also include Piazza Sant'Angelo, Via Principe di Napoli, or Piazza Elena.
The municipal administration opens the event to artisans, traders, artists, and producers of Christmas delicacies. The result is a diverse market ranging from local crafts and gift items to the most delicious flavors of the Sicilian Christmas:
The markets are part of the broader Licata Christmas program, which every year includes the lighting of the tree in Piazza Progresso, shows, nativity scenes, and events for children, leading up to the New Year's Eve celebrations.
Promoted by the Municipality of Licata, which publishes a call for tenders each year to select the operator responsible for design and management, the markets were created with a specific spirit: to create, as the administration noted, "a moment of joy and celebration" shared by the city and the surrounding towns. For those visiting south-western Sicily during the holidays, it is the ideal opportunity to discover Licata outside the beach season, amidst lights, Christmas scents, and the warm welcome of a seaside town.
At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition of the Licata Christmas Markets have not yet been published. As this is a recurring Christmas event managed by the Municipality of Licata through a public notice, the usual setup of wooden chalets featuring crafts, gift ideas, and Christmas delicacies in one of the central squares is expected. Information will be updated as soon as the Municipality announces the calendar and organizational details.
