About Terre Sospese

Terre Sospese is a free festival celebrating climbing, nature, and community, held over three days in late May in Viù, in the Valli di Lanzo. Organized by the Epokè ODV ETS Association, it blends indoor and outdoor climbing, hiking, yoga, talks, family workshops, social dinners, and live music. It is a collaborative event that combines accessible sports, alpine culture, and slow tourism across the cliffs, trails, and village squares of this Piedmontese town.

Terre Sospese, the climbing festival of the Valli di Lanzo

Terre Sospese is a festival dedicated to climbing, nature, and community, taking place in Viù, in the province of Turin, in the heart of the Valli di Lanzo, Piedmont. Promoted by the Epokè ODV ETS Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Viù, the event is free and open to everyone: families, enthusiasts, and curious visitors alike. For three days, the local cliffs, trails, and shared spaces become a natural stage where sports, culture, and social connections meet.

Three dimensions of suspension

The festival is structured around three symbolic dimensions, from which it takes its name:

  • Suspended in Space — the verticality of climbing, both indoor and outdoor, to move body and mind across cliffs and walls.
  • Suspended in Time — the slow pace of gentle tourism, hiking, and alpine culture.
  • Suspended in Community — meetings, talks, and exchanges between people and the mountain territory.

A rich and widespread program

The schedule alternates free climbing and workshops at the VerticalBlù gym and the La Baita crag, CAI (Italian Alpine Club) hikes towards the peaks of the Valli di Lanzo such as Punta Sourela, morning yoga sessions, talks dedicated to mountain life, inclusion, and territorial regeneration, as well as creative workshops for children and families. There is no shortage of convivial moments: aperitifs, social dinners with traditional menus, live concerts, and DJ sets at sunset.

Sports, territory, and participation

Terre Sospese is much more than just a climbing event: it stems from a participatory process involving citizens, volunteers, associations, and local bodies to enhance the natural and human heritage of the Viù Valley. Partners include UISP, the Italian Alpine Club, the Pro Loco of Viù, and technical sponsor Petzl, with the support of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. The festival focuses on accessible sports, participation, inclusion, and an authentic bond with the alpine territory.

Why attend

Those who reach Viù for Terre Sospese find a rare combination: the chance to try climbing for free, hike at altitude with expert guides, engage in thought-provoking talks, and experience the conviviality of a small mountain village in Piedmont. It is an ideal appointment to discover the Valli di Lanzo in a slow and conscious way, far from mass tourism.
