An inclusive cycle-touring ride along the trails of the Via Francigena in the Susa Valley
The Pellegrina Bike Marathon has become a staple late-summer event for cycle-touring enthusiasts in Piedmont. Starting and finishing in Condove, in the province of Turin, the event transforms the Lower Susa Valley into a vast cycling circuit that traverses dozens of municipalities, passing through villages, countryside, and ancient pilgrimage routes. This is not a timed race, but a non-competitive cycle-touring event where the pleasure of riding together matters more than the clock.
The common thread of the event is the Via Francigena, the historic route that has led pilgrims through the Susa Valley toward the Moncenisio pass for centuries. The Pellegrina routes partially follow this ancient path, alternating between secondary paved roads, gravel tracks, and rural lanes in a journey that is as much about sport as it is about culture and scenery.
The event offers various loop itineraries starting from Condove, calibrated by length and elevation gain to accommodate every level of fitness:
The true hallmark of the Pellegrina is its inclusive spirit. The 4ALL project centers on the idea that the bicycle is a tool for social connection and inclusion: the event is open to amateurs, cycle tourists, families, and people with special needs, with vehicles dedicated to assisting those with disabilities. Alongside the main route, the Bike Village in Piazza Martiri della Libertà features entertainment, shows, and music, while the Mini Pellegrina offers a grass-track obstacle course for children aged 4 to 12.
Organized by the Guide Discovery Valsusa association, the Pellegrina Bike Marathon promotes slow tourism and sustainable mobility throughout the Susa Valley, highlighting the small towns of the lower valley and their traditions. It is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont by bike, amidst mountains, history, and local hospitality.
The sixth edition of the Pellegrina Bike Marathon will take place on September 12-13, 2026, in Condove, with the usual Bike Village in Piazza Martiri della Libertà and the Sunday cycle-touring ride through the municipalities of the Lower Susa Valley. In 2026, the event will maintain its dual nature: sporting, with gravel and road routes of varying lengths, and inclusive, with the 4ALL project open to families and people with disabilities.
Kicking things off is the Mini Pellegrina, scheduled for June 13, 2026, dedicated to children aged 4 to 12. The complete program for the September edition—tracks, elevation gains, schedules, and fees—will be announced by the organization on the official website.
Condove can be reached by car via the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway (exit Borgone-Villar Focchiardo) or by train on the Turin-Modane line, stopping at Condove-Chiusa San Michele. The event headquarters is located in Piazza Martiri della Libertà.
Registration is available online on the official website www.pellegrinabikemarathon.com until the days preceding the event, with the possibility of last-minute registration at the Bike Village. A sports medical certificate is required for the more demanding routes.
