The vertical kilometer in the heart of the Susa Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Rubiana Vertical Race is a competitive uphill running race held in Rubiana, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, at the entrance to the Susa Valley. The start is set in Piazza Roma, in front of the Town Hall, from where athletes dash upwards along a track that climbs rapidly to the summit of Madonna dell'Arpone, on Mount Arpon.
The track measures approximately 2.8 kilometers with over 540 meters of elevation gain: a classic vertical kilometer (VK), a format where gradient counts more than distance. The climb offers panoramic views of the valley and tests legs and lungs in just a few grueling tens of minutes of racing. Volunteers assist and encourage participants along the entire route, while the awards ceremony takes place upon returning to Piazza Roma.
The Rubiana Vertical Race is part of the Vertical Valsusa Val Cenischia Circuit, a series of mountain running events that enliven the sports season in the valleys around Turin. The event is organized by the Sentieri Liberi group of Rubiana together with Gli Orchi Trailers and with the support of the Municipality of Rubiana.
Founded in 2025, the race immediately captured the interest of vertical running enthusiasts from its first edition, becoming a highly anticipated date on the Piedmontese valley calendar. The atmosphere is that of a typical local race: enthusiasm, community, and a strong connection to the mountain territory of the Province of Turin.
The 2026 edition of the Rubiana Vertical Race has undergone a calendar change: as announced on the official website, "due to organizational issues we are forced to reschedule the race in September". The original date of Saturday, May 23, 2026, is therefore not confirmed and the new date will be communicated shortly by the organizers.
The race maintains its vertical kilometer format, starting from Piazza Roma in Rubiana (Turin) and finishing at altitude, and remains the fourth event of the 2026 Vertical Valsusa Val Cenischia Circuit. Registration is already open on the WeDoSport platform.
The detailed hourly schedule for the 2026 edition will be published after the announcement of the new September date. The planned structure includes, as per the event format:
Official times will be communicated on the event website once the date is defined.
Rubiana is located in the Susa Valley, about 30 km from Turin. By car, it can be reached via the SP197 from the lower valley; the meeting point is Piazza Roma, in front of the Town Hall. The nearest train station is Caprie-Novaretto, on the Turin-Bardonecchia line, with onward travel by road.
Registration is done online via the WeDoSport platform. As this is a competitive mountain running race, a medical certificate for competitive sports is required. For fees, deadlines, and updated details, it is recommended to consult the official website.
