About Toma Trail

The Toma Trail is a mountain running race held every October on the trails of Condove, in the Susa Valley, as part of the historic Toma Cheese Fair. The 16 km course, featuring 950 meters of elevation gain, winds through forests, mule tracks, and the evocative 'Sentiero dei Morti' (Path of the Dead), offering spectacular views of the lower valley. Organized by the Freemount ASD, it is a technical race that is also accessible to amateurs, blending sport, nature, and alpine dairy traditions. Alongside the competitive race, the event features the Tomino Trail, a fun run dedicated to children.

The Toma Trail: running through the paths of the Susa Valley

The Toma Trail is the autumn event that transforms Condove, a town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, into the starting point for one of the most beloved mountain races in the lower Susa Valley. The event, organized by the Freemount ASD sports association, takes place concurrently with the Toma Cheese Fair, which has celebrated the local alpine cheese for over thirty years.

A technical course immersed in nature

The route covers approximately 16 kilometers with 950 meters of elevation gain, winding through woods, historic mule tracks, and mid-mountain paths. A highlight is the passage along the Sentiero dei Morti, an ancient route restored by local volunteers. It is a challenging race that tests even the most seasoned trail runners, yet the charm of the landscape and the festive atmosphere make it suitable for those seeking an alpine running experience without competitive pressure.

Sport, tradition, and flavor

What makes the Toma Trail special is its bond with the Condove Toma Cheese Fair: while athletes race on the trails, the village comes alive with stalls, producers, tastings, and the transhumance of herds descending from the mountain pastures. At the finish line, participants find the village bustling with the festival dedicated to Toma, the signature cheese of the Turin valleys. It is a perfect blend of sport, nature, and alpine gastronomic culture that defines the identity of the Susa Valley.

The Tomino Trail for kids

Alongside the competitive race, the Tomino Trail was created in recent years—a fun run designed for children. This addition enhances the family-friendly nature of the event and introduces new generations to mountain running and environmental respect, core values for organizers who place great emphasis on the sustainability of the event.

An event rooted in the territory

For several editions, the Toma Trail has become a staple of the Piedmontese running calendar in early autumn. The combination of the charm of the Susa Valley trails, the backdrop of the Toma Cheese Fair, and the meticulous organization by Freemount ASD makes it a day of sport and tradition to experience in Condove.
