The Bibbona stop of the Mascagni Festival on the Etruscan Coast
Terre Mascagnane is the widespread project of the Mascagni Festival that brings the notes and memories of the famous Livorno-born composer Pietro Mascagni out of traditional stages and into the squares, nature reserves, and seafronts of the Etruscan Coast. Born from the collaboration between the municipalities of Cecina, Castagneto Carducci, and Bibbona, with the support of Toscana Promozione Turistica, the project combines great music with the scenic and historical charm of this stretch of the Tuscan coast, in the province of Livorno.
In Bibbona, a small village in the province of Livorno overlooking the Tuscan coast, Terre Mascagnane stops in the heart of the town, in Piazza della Vittoria. Here, under the summer stars, the performance becomes a shared experience: Mascagni's music engages with theater, the actors' voices, and the allure of a place that becomes a natural auditorium. It is a different way to experience opera and melodrama, far from traditional halls and immersed in the atmosphere of a summer village evening.
The common thread of Terre Mascagnane is the deep bond between Pietro Mascagni and his homeland. Each stop offers an original reading of the Mascagnian universe, alternating narration and music, emotion and irony, memory and dream. In Bibbona, the audience rediscovers the composer's most intense characters and scores, presented with contemporary sensitivity and entrusted to prominent performers, accompanied by the professors of the Teatro Goldoni Orchestra of Livorno and soloists associated with the Festival.
All Terre Mascagnane events, including the Bibbona stop, are free of charge: a choice that reflects the popular and inclusive vocation of the project, designed to bring a wide audienceโresidents, tourists, and curious visitors alikeโcloser to great music. For Tuscany and the Etruscan Coast, Terre Mascagnane represents a precious opportunity to discover world-class musical heritage in an authentic and intimate setting.
The Bibbona evening is part of a summer calendar that spans several municipalities, from Cecina to Castagneto Carducci, each with its own dedicated event. The Bibbona stop, in particular, is one of the most anticipated moments: a single, free evening capable of combining musical excellence with the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of a coastal Tuscan village.
The Bibbona stop of Terre Mascagnane 2026 features Paola Minaccioni in "Santuzza", a free event that brings the power of Pietro Mascagni's melodrama, reinterpreted in a contemporary key, to the stage of Piazza della Vittoria. The show is part of a summer calendar spread across Cecina, Castagneto Carducci, and Bibbona, all with free admission.
"A woman. A choice. A world that won't forgive her for it." Paola Minaccioni gives voice and body to one of the most intense characters in Italian melodrama, the Santuzza of Cavalleria rusticana: a modern woman trapped in the wrong time, who chooses and pays the price for her choice. The show is accompanied by the soloists of the Accademia Mascagni and the professors of the Teatro Goldoni Orchestra of Livorno.
The performances in Bibbona (province of Livorno, Tuscany) are held in Piazza della Vittoria, in the town center.
