Three days of contemporary poetry in the heart of Grosseto
The Terra di Mare Festival is the leading event dedicated to contemporary poetry in Grosseto, the capital of the Tuscan Maremma. Created to restore a space for real-life connection to the poetic word, the festival offers three intense days of readings, author dialogues, performances, workshops, and moments where poetry intertwines with music. The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of Grosseto and curated by poet and cultural organizer David La Mantia, the driving force behind the "Finestre" lit-blog, which officially became a cultural association during the 2026 edition.
The theme running through the festival is the return of the word to reality: taking poetry off the page and out of the frantic scrolling of social media, allowing it to inhabit listening, discussion, and physical presence. Over the three days, more than eighty voices of contemporary Italian poetry—poets, publishers, literary critics, and editors—alternate in a program that blends readings, presentations, round tables, and intersections between different languages. It is not a grand spectacle, but a shared experience built on friction, questions, and dialogue.
The festival unfolds over approximately seventeen hours of activities spread across three days, with morning and afternoon sessions. Guests from recent editions include national poetic figures such as Davide Rondoni, alongside numerous authors, independent publishers, and editors. A particularly significant reflection is the relationship between poetry and new technologies, featuring a conference dedicated to artificial intelligence and its connection to writing. There is also space for spoken word music and collaborative publishing projects, making the festival a meeting point for independent poetry.
Hosting a poetry festival in the heart of Grosseto, a city enclosed by its famous Medici walls, means combining contemporary culture with the charm of the Maremma—a land historically defined by the border between sea, plains, and hills in the Tuscany region. The festival is part of the Maremma capital's rich summer calendar and represents an opportunity to experience the historic center in a cultural light, amidst words, voices, and sounds.
The fourth edition of the Terra di Mare Festival was held in Grosseto from May 31 to June 2, 2026. Three days totaling approximately seventeen hours of activity: Sunday, May 31 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 1 from 9:00 AM to 1:15 PM and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Tuesday, June 2 from 9:00 AM to 1:15 PM.
The program alternated between readings, author dialogues, publishing presentations, workshops, and moments of spoken word music, bringing together over eighty poets, publishers, critics, and editors. Guests included national figures such as Davide Rondoni and numerous independent authors and publishers, including Paola Zan, who was present on the final day. There was also a conference on the relationship between poetry and artificial intelligence. During the festival, the organizing collective officially formed a cultural association.
