The traveling literary festival across the hamlets of Gavorrano, under the summer sky of the Maremma
Readings Under the Stars is the summer literary festival of the Municipality of Gavorrano, in the heart of the Maremma in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany. Promoted by the municipal administration together with the Equal Opportunities Commission and local volunteer associations, the event turns summer evenings into opportunities for gathering: ten nights dedicated to storytelling, history, poetry, and memory, featuring book presentations, dialogues with authors, images, and projects tied to the region.
The hallmark of the festival is its traveling nature: each event takes place in a different hamlet of the Municipality, reaching and highlighting all the communities that make up Gavorrano. The evenings visit Gavorrano (the main town), Ravi, Forni, Bivio Ravi, Potassa, Grilli, Caldana, Giuncarico, Casteani, and Castellaccia. It is a way to bring culture into the squares and open spaces of small towns, where reading becomes a moment of social connection and gathering for the residents.
The program alternates between local and national cultural voices. Authors animating the meetings include Don Pier Mosetti, Enzo Tonini, Paolo Nardini, Tiziana Lombardi, Laura Pistelli, Angelica Belsito, Letizia Papi, the writer Alberto Prunetti, Roberta Pieraccioli, Edo Galli, Guido Bardi, and Gordiano Lupi, alongside students and teachers from the Giuncarico primary school. Alongside book presentations, there is space for narratives dedicated to the history and memory of the Maremma, in a dialogue between generations and between great literature and local storytelling.
The evenings are designed as moments open to everyone, often accompanied by aperitifs and side initiatives involving the local Pro Loco and associations. Admission to the meetings is free. For those visiting the Maremma in summer, Readings Under the Stars is an opportunity to discover the most authentic soul of the Gavorrano villages, far from the beaten tourist paths, amidst culture, conviviality, and the cool of the open-air evenings.
The third edition of Readings Under the Stars takes place from June 11 to July 29, 2026, with ten events distributed across the hamlets of Gavorrano. The festival, promoted by the Municipality together with the Equal Opportunities Commission and volunteer associations, confirms the formula that led to its success: evening meetings, usually at 9:00 PM, dedicated to books, stories, history, and the memory of the Maremma territory.
The opening is on Thursday, June 11 at 9:00 PM in Piazza Buozzi in Gavorrano, with the presentation of the volume Il cammino di Padre Giovanni. Eremita agostiniano by Don Pier Mosetti.
The evenings feature Don Pier Mosetti, Enzo Tonini, Paolo Nardini, Tiziana Lombardi, Laura Pistelli, Angelica Belsito, Letizia Papi, Alberto Prunetti, Roberta Pieraccioli, Edo Galli, Guido Bardi, and Gordiano Lupi, together with students and teachers from the Giuncarico primary school.
