The festival of the prized white truffle of the Bolognese Apennines
In the heart of the Bolognese Apennines, the village of Savigno — a hamlet of the Municipality of Valsamoggia, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna — has been famous for decades for its prized white truffle (Tuber magnatum pico), which grows in the valley woods. Every autumn, this excellent product becomes the absolute protagonist of Tartófla, the International White Truffle Festival, one of the longest-running and most characteristic food and wine events in Emilia-Romagna.
The event takes place over four consecutive weekends between late October and mid-November, for a total of eight days of celebration. Throughout the event, the streets of the historic center fill with stalls, scents, and colors: the heart of the event is the truffle market exhibition, with over 150 exhibitors including local and national truffle hunters, agricultural producers, artisans, and stalls from the arts and crafts market.
The most evocative space is dedicated to the traditional practice of truffle hunting and extraction, recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Visitors can participate in guided walks in the surrounding woods with Savigno's truffle hunters and their dogs, to discover firsthand how the precious hypogean fungus is found.
The festival is above all a great celebration of taste. The Tartófla Restaurant, managed by the Pro Loco under a heated marquee, offers typical Apennine traditional dishes, served in classic versions or enhanced with truffle. Along the village streets, there is no shortage of street food with crescentine, borlenghi, fried foods, and polenta, and truffle-themed menus from local restaurants and farmhouses. Completing the program are conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and book presentations dedicated to the world of truffles and local culture.
Born in the early eighties, Tartófla has helped to make the white truffle of Savigno known far beyond regional borders, earning the "international" dimension of its title. Today, it is one of the most beloved autumn events in the province of Bologna, capable of attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the small village of Valsamoggia in search of authentic flavors and a day immersed in the colors of the Apennines.
The 2026 edition of Tartófla, the 43rd, confirms the formula of four weekends between late October and mid-November. In the historic center of Savigno, the grand white truffle market exhibition returns with over 150 exhibitors, alongside the arts and crafts market and gastronomic stands. Central space is given to truffle hunting and extraction, a UNESCO heritage, with guided walks in the woods with truffle hunters and their dogs.
Tartófla takes place on the following dates, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM:
