Night excursion among the Grasparossa hills in Castelvetro di Modena
Le Notti del Vino… in tour! is one of the most evocative events of the summer gastronomic season in Castelvetro di Modena, a hilly village in the Province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna. The initiative is part of the national event Le Notti del Vino, promoted by the National Association of Wine Cities, which every year enlivens dozens of Italian municipalities between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox with events dedicated to wine culture, responsible drinking, and the enhancement of the territory.
The heart of the evening is a night excursion of about 7 kilometers (round trip) through the hills of Lambrusco Grasparossa, the symbolic wine of Castelvetro. The departure is set at Piazza Roma, in the historic center of the village, and the walk is accompanied by a hiking guide who, along the way, tells stories about the nature of the hilly landscape, the stars, and the myths and legends associated with the celestial vault.
Halfway through the route, participants reach a local winery, where a small refreshment is provided with typical local products paired with two glasses of the winery's wine. This is the convivial moment of the evening, designed to introduce the wine excellence of Castelvetro directly in the places where it is produced.
The last part of the experience is dedicated to sky observation: accompanied by an astrophotographer and science communicator, participants can admire the celestial vault away from city lights, in a combination of landscape, science, and good living that makes this evening unique.
Also suitable for families with children, the event requires mandatory booking and has a limited number of participants. In case of bad weather, the evening is postponed to the next day. Le Notti del Vino… in tour! represents an original way to discover Castelvetro di Modena and its hills, combining food and wine, hiking, and astronomy.
The 2026 edition will be held on Tuesday, July 14 (with postponement to Wednesday, July 15 in case of bad weather), as part of the national event of the Cities of Wine, which in 2026 runs from June 21 to September 23.
The evening begins at 7:30 PM in Piazza Roma, in the historic center of Castelvetro di Modena, with a hiking guide who accompanies participants along a 7-kilometer night route through the Grasparossa hills, telling stories about nature, stars, myths, and legends of the territory.
Along the route, there will be a stop at the Cantina Buonariva winery, with a small refreshment of local products paired with two glasses of the winery's wine. The evening concludes with observation of the celestial vault with Pierluigi Giacobazzi, astrophotographer and science communicator, with a return expected around midnight.
Meeting point and departure at Piazza Roma, 5 — 41014 Castelvetro di Modena (MO), in the historic center of the village. Departure at 7:30 PM, return expected around midnight. Route of approximately 7 km round trip through the Grasparossa hills.
