The summer black truffle of the Bologna Apennines celebrates with a market, truffle dog competition, and food stalls
The Camugnanese Fair and Black Truffle Festival is the summer event that best represents Camugnano, a small municipality in the Province of Bologna nestled in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Here, just over fifty kilometers from the Emilian capital, over four thousand hectares of coppice woods of oak, chestnut, and beech are home to the summer black truffle, the scorzone, the true protagonist of this festive day.
The event takes place in two symbolic locations of the town. In Piazza Kennedy, a market of various goods opens in the morning, while the nearby Parco Don Antonio becomes the gastronomic headquarters and the stage for the national truffle dog competition, a spectacular moment where handlers and their dogs compete in searching for the precious tuber, showcasing the ancient bond between man, dog, and forest to the public.
The heart of the festival remains the table. In the food stalls of Parco Don Antonio, you can have lunch and dinner with dishes prepared entirely with black truffle: from tagliatelle to crostini, to the specialties of the Bologna Apennines cuisine like tortelloni, tigelle, and fried crescentine. The day is accompanied by live music from the band and, in the evening, by the DJ's tunes that liven up the park until night.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover the territory: Camugnano is located within the Regional Park of the Suviana and Brasimone Lakes, with over thirty kilometers of trails, and on this day offers excursions, walks, and activities for families and children. Organized by the Pro Loco Camugnano with the support of the Municipality, the Black Truffle Festival is a classic of the Emilia-Romagna summer, a summer complement to the more famous autumn Tartufesta that the same town dedicates to truffles between late October and early November.
The Camugnanese Fair and Black Truffle Festival returns to Camugnano (BO) with its day dedicated to the summer black truffle of the Bologna Apennines. The event is listed in the official calendar of public area fairs of the Emilia-Romagna Region for 2026. The detailed program, which follows the established tradition of the festival, is usually published by Pro Loco Camugnano in the weeks preceding the event.
