A month of Christmas magic on the Maremma coast
When December arrives, the seaside village of Castiglione della Pescaia, in the Province of Grosseto, transforms into a Christmas village overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Christmas Time festival fills the streets of the historic center, the squares, and the seafront with lights, music, markets, and traditions that last for over a month, from the lighting of the decorations until Epiphany.
Organized by the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia in collaboration with the local commercial center, parishes, and regional associations, Christmas Time is designed as a widespread celebration involving both the main town and its surrounding hamlets. The program alternates between entertainment and family-friendly activities, offering an authentic, non-touristy atmosphere typical of the Maremma coast in the off-season.
Christmas Time is the perfect opportunity to discover a different side of the Maremmaโthe winter sideโwhen Castiglione della Pescaia regains a slow, welcoming rhythm. Between the scent of the sea and the lights of the village, it is an authentic celebration that unites the local community and welcomes visitors with a rich, almost entirely free calendar of events.
The dates for the 2026 edition have been confirmed by the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia: the Christmas festival will take place from December 8, 2026, to January 6, 2027, accompanying residents and visitors throughout the holidays with a calendar spread across the historic center and the surrounding hamlets.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including dates and times for individual events, will be announced by the Municipality and the local commercial center in the weeks leading up to the start of the festival.
Based on previous editions, the calendar traditionally includes: the lighting of the decorations and the tree in Piazza della Repubblica, the traveling artisan market, the Village with Santa's House, the living nativity, shows and workshops for children, New Year's Eve in the square with live music, and for Epiphany, the parade of the Calza Demografica with the arrival of the Befana in the hamlets.
Lighting of the illuminations, Santa's House, living nativity, New Year's Eve in the square, and the Calza Demografica, considered the longest stocking in Italy.
