A tasting of award-winning South Tyrolean wines at Cantina Colterenzio
The Südtirol Wine Selection is one of the most refined wine tastings on the South Tyrolean calendar. It takes place in the municipality of Appiano sulla strada del vino/Eppan an der Weinstraße, in the province of Bolzano, the heart of the famous South Tyrol Wine Road. The event is hosted at the prestigious Cantina Colterenzio in the village of Cornaiano. It is organized by the Wine Club Appiano in collaboration with the South Tyrol Sommelier Association, two entities deeply rooted in the wine culture of this corner of the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
The heart of the event is the VITAE tasting, which showcases South Tyrolean wines that have received top honors from the AIS (Italian Sommelier Association) VITAE guide. It is a rare opportunity to sample, in one single location, the labels that have conquered the highest accolades from national wine guides. The tasting tables offer a chance to get up close with the work of local wineries, featuring Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Lagrein, and the great reserves that have made South Tyrol a benchmark for quality Italian wine.
Alongside the open tasting, the program includes sommelier-led masterclasses—exclusive sessions dedicated to exceptional labels and specific vintages. These limited-capacity, reservation-only sessions guide participants through a sensory journey led by experts, perfect for both enthusiasts and those looking to refine their tasting skills.
The wine experience is enhanced by gourmet bites that highlight local gastronomic products, designed to pair perfectly with the wines and complete the sensory experience. The marriage of glass and plate is an integral part of South Tyrolean tradition, where hospitality and a commitment to quality are second nature.
Hosting such an event is natural for Appiano sulla strada del vino, one of the most important wine-producing municipalities in South Tyrol. Surrounded by vineyards, historic farmsteads, and lakes, the town is a prime stop for anyone traveling the South Tyrol Wine Road, the wine-tourism route that winds through the most picturesque villages in the province of Bolzano. The Südtirol Wine Selection is therefore much more than a tasting: it is an immersion into the oenological and cultural identity of the region.
The 2026 edition was held on Saturday, April 18, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM (entry permitted until 8:00 PM), at the Cantina Colterenzio in Cornaiano, Appiano sulla strada del vino. The heart of the day was the VITAE tasting of the most award-winning South Tyrolean wines, with open tasting tables available for €60.
