The autumn vintage car rally through the golden landscapes of South Tyrol
The Südtirol Classic Schenna — Golden Edition is the autumn iteration of the renowned vintage car rally held in Scena/Schenna, the charming town above Merano in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. Unlike the summer rally—the historic "Südtirol Classic," which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026—the Golden Edition completely abandons stopwatches, light barriers, and rankings: here, it is not speed that counts, but the pleasure of driving through the golden hues of autumn.
For nearly a week, crews from all over Europe take their classic cars along scenic routes that cross South Tyrol and venture into the neighboring Trentino. The program alternates driving days with food and wine stops in manors, wineries, and mountain inns. Highlights of this edition include:
Beyond the program reserved for the crews, the event opens its doors to the public: an Open-Air Showroom is set up in the center of Scena/Schenna, a free-entry exhibition of vintage cars and motorcycles (up to the year 2000), complete with live music and autumn delicacies like roasted chestnuts. It is a unique opportunity for enthusiasts and visitors to admire perfectly preserved historic vehicles up close.
The Golden Edition welcomes historic cars built up to the mid-nineties. The organization, managed by the Südtirol Classic Club, ensures routes marked with the famous red arrows, roadside assistance, reserved restaurants, and convivial evenings. The charm of driving a Mercedes-Benz Ponton, a Porsche, or a 1960s spider through the South Tyrolean passes, with vineyards and apple orchards already painted in gold, makes this rally a beloved appointment for collectors across Europe.
Overlooking Merano and the Merano basin, the town of Scena/Schenna offers a perfect starting point: mild weather even in October, panoramic views of the Alps, and a long tradition of hospitality. It is here, in Erzherzog-Johann-Platz, that each edition kicks off with a welcome aperitif and the presentation of the program.
The 2026 Golden Edition kicks off on Tuesday, October 6, with a welcome aperitif and the presentation of the program at Erzherzog-Johann-Platz in Scena/Schenna. The following days feature thematic driving: Wednesday the 7th through alpine passes, apples, and Törggelen (Passo Palade, Val di Non, Mendola) with a visit to the Melinda apple cable car; Thursday the 8th between vineyards and Renaissance history towards Mezzocorona, with lunch at Palazzo Perlerhof and a stop at the Rotari world; Friday the 9th in the heart of the Dolomites between Castelrotto, Val di Funes, Luson, and Bressanone; Saturday the 10th the "Golden Finale" in the Merano area between Lana, Tesimo, and Nalles, with lunch at Restaurant Schlosswirt and a closing evening. In the center of Scena/Schenna, the Open-Air Showroom will feature vintage cars and motorcycles up to the year 2000, with live music and free entry.
Scena/Schenna is located a few kilometers above Merano, in the province of Bolzano. By car: A22 Brennero motorway, exit Bolzano Sud, then the MeBo expressway to Merano and the ascent towards Scena. By train: Merano station, then local bus to Schenna.
Participation in the rally is reserved for registered crews, with packages including accommodation, tours, lunches, and evening events. Fees and registration procedures are published on the official Südtirol Classic Club website.
The Open-Air Showroom in the center of Scena/Schenna is free to enter. Information: Südtirol Classic Club, Erzherzog-Johann-Platz 1/D, 39017 Scena/Schenna — tel. +39 0473 945669 — [email protected].
