The small fruit festival of Lardaro, in the heart of Val del Chiese
The Strawberry and Small Fruit Festival is the summer event that brings Lardaro to life, a small village in the municipality of Sella Giudicarie, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Set against the lush backdrop of the Val del Chiese, the Pro Loco of Lardaro organizes a July weekend entirely dedicated to strawberries and mountain berries, which are the stars of an agricultural tradition deeply rooted in this corner of the Giudicarie.
The festival spans two days, with a program designed for all ages. The opening Saturday evening kicks off with the Fragore Party, featuring live music, a bar, and a kitchen open all night, keeping guests entertained in a festive and informal atmosphere.
Sunday is the highlight: it begins with a themed lunch featuring local specialties, followed by afternoon entertainment for the little ones. There are inflatable play areas for children and the highly anticipated best dessert competition, which rewards the creativity of the valley's amateur pastry chefs with dishes based on strawberries and wild berries.
Sunday evening concludes on a high note with a dance party accompanied by a traditional dinner: from cutlets to carne salada, as well as sandwiches and chips, the typical Trentino dishes keep the atmosphere warm until late. It is the moment when the entire community of Lardaro and neighboring villages gathers around long tables, in the spirit of celebration that is the hallmark of Trentino village festivals.
The cultivation of small fruits has long been an important resource for the Trentino valleys, where the mountain climate gives strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries an intense and fragrant flavor. The Lardaro festival celebrates this local vocation, offering visitors the chance to discover local products in an authentic setting, far from major tourist circuits and close to the genuine rhythm of valley life.
