The charity run supporting cancer research
StraCandiolo has become a staple of the Piedmontese running scene: an event that blends sport, solidarity, and love for the local area in the municipality of Candiolo, near Turin. Established in the late nineties, the race has grown with every edition, becoming a highly anticipated date for hundreds of runners from across Piedmont and beyond. The core mission remains unchanged: running to support cancer research.
What makes StraCandiolo truly unique is its iconic venue: the start and finish lines are located inside the Istituto di Candiolo - IRCCS, a leading oncology research and treatment center founded by the Piedmontese Foundation for Cancer Research. Running through and around a place of healing gives the race a meaning that goes far beyond personal bests; every registration fee becomes a tangible contribution to the work of the researchers in the Institute's laboratories.
The competitive course measures 8.2 kilometers and winds along the flat roads crossing the countryside south of Turin, in an area between Candiolo, None, and Stupinigi. It is a fast, flowing route appreciated by both competitive athletes and casual runners, offering glimpses of the rice paddies and fields that define this corner of Piedmont. Alongside the competitive race, the event traditionally welcomes those who wish to participate non-competitively, whether walking or running at their own pace.
StraCandiolo is part of the regional running calendar and is supported by the Municipality of Candiolo. All registration proceeds are donated to the Piedmontese Foundation for Cancer Research, supporting the dozens of laboratories and research groups at the Istituto di Candiolo - IRCCS. Over the years, the event has raised thousands of euros, proving how a simple race can become a powerful tool for solidarity.
Beyond the competition, StraCandiolo is a celebration for the entire community of Candiolo and the Piedmont region: families, children, sports clubs, and curious spectators gather for a morning dedicated to movement and community spirit. The atmosphere is that of a classic Italian popular race, where competitiveness gives way to smiles and the awareness of contributing to a good cause.
The 2026 edition of StraCandiolo will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in the municipality of Candiolo (Turin). The event will take place in the morning: to allow the race to proceed, a temporary closure of a section of the Provincial Road 23 is planned, approximately from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
The formula that made the event famous is confirmed: start and finish inside the Istituto di Candiolo - IRCCS and a competitive 8.2-kilometer route along the roads of the Piedmontese countryside. The detailed program, including official times, registration fees, and participation methods for the non-competitive walk, will be published by the organizers on the official website in the weeks leading up to the race.
The Istituto di Candiolo - IRCCS is located along the Provincial Road 142, about 20 km south of Turin. By car, it is easily accessible from the Turin ring road (tangenziale) towards Stupinigi/Candiolo. During the event, some roads, particularly a section of the SP23, may be temporarily closed to traffic.
Registration for both the competitive race and the non-competitive walk can be completed online via the official website and, generally, on the morning of the race. All proceeds are donated to cancer research.
Arrive early to collect your race bib, wear clothing suitable for the summer season, and remember that participation is, above all, an act of solidarity.
