The non-competitive fun run that kicks off the spring festivities in Cavallerleone
The Stra Cavalion is a non-competitive fun run that draws dozens of runners, families, and walkers to Cavallerleone, a small town in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, every April 25th. Founded in 2016, the race has become a staple of the local spring calendar, successfully pairing outdoor sports with the convivial spirit typical of Piedmontese village festivals.
The course winds for approximately 6.5 kilometers along the streets of the historic center and the surrounding countryside, passing through the rice fields, rows of crops, and farmhouses that define the Savigliano plains. The format is twofold: a non-competitive run for those looking to test their pace, and a family walk designed to involve children, parents, and grandparents in a morning of sport and social interaction. The event is organized by the Amici Runners Cavallerleone, with technical support from Podistica Caramagna and in collaboration with the municipal administration.
The Stra Cavalion holds a significance that goes beyond the race itself: it traditionally kicks off the spring and patronal festivities of Cavallerleone, which continue in the following days with the Spring Festival, musical evenings, theatrical performances in the Piedmontese dialect, and activities dedicated to children. The date of April 25th also links the event to the Liberation Day anniversary, which the administration honors with a brief commemorative moment.
At the end of the course, the award ceremony takes place, recognizing the top overall finishers, local runners from Cavallerleone, and the largest family and sports groups. Plaques, local products, and regional wine bottles accompany a morning defined by joy and hospitality. Participation is steadily growing: after recording over 340 attendees in its most crowded editions, the tenth edition in 2026 confirmed its success with more than 210 participants.
Nestled in the heart of the Cuneo plains, just a few kilometers from Racconigi and Savigliano, Cavallerleone preserves a valuable historical heritage: the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, the medieval castle, the Ceriana-Gioanetti silk mill, and 18th-century frescoed villas. Participating in the Stra Cavalion is also a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic, lesser-known corner of Piedmont, rich in history, agricultural landscapes, and provincial hospitality.
On April 25, 2026, Cavallerleone celebrated the tenth edition of the Stra Cavalion, the non-competitive fun run organized by the Amici Runners Cavallerleone with the support of the Municipality and Podistica Caramagna. Over 210 participants took part in the sporting morning, between the 6.5 km run and the family walk along the village streets and the surrounding countryside.
As per tradition, the event opened the village's spring festivities, accompanied by the awards ceremony for the top finishers, local runners, and the largest groups, as well as a commemorative moment for Liberation Day.
The Stra Cavalion traditionally takes place on the morning of April 25th, with the meeting point and start in the center of Cavallerleone.
