A night of music across the bars of Vipiteno's historic center
Sterzing tanzt!, or Vipiteno Dances! in Italian, is one of the most anticipated musical events of the spring in Vipiteno (Sterzing), located in the heart of the Upper Isarco Valley in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. For one night only, the town's historic center transforms into a true party hub: nine local venues open their doors at once to host DJs and live bands, creating a long night of music echoing through the medieval alleys and arcades.
The concept is simple and engaging: a single wristband grants free access to all participating venues. Guests can move from one spot to another, following their favorite musical genres without having to commit to just one venue. Historically participating venues include Café Frick, Alex Pub, Schwarzer Adler Tagesbar, Nepomuk, Biwak, S' Stodtplatzl, Bar Bistro Sterzl, Steindl, and Bar Essenza – Posthotel Lamm.
The musical program is intentionally eclectic, designed to satisfy diverse generations and tastes. DJs from Italy, Germany, and Austria spin a mix of 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s hits, techno, melodic-techno, trance, and house, alongside Italodisco, Schlager, electro-swing, hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, mash-ups, chart-toppers, and even karaoke sessions. Alongside the DJ sets, the evening is also enlivened by live music, with bands performing in several of the town's venues.
Created by the event label Nighttain, Sterzing tanzt! is promoted in partnership with the Vipiteno-Racines tourist board and involves the entire network of local businesses in the historic center. The event, a sibling to the "Bruneck tanzt" in Brunico, has become a staple of South Tyrolean nightlife over the years, drawing visitors from across the province of Bolzano and the surrounding valleys.
The setting is the evocative historic center of Vipiteno, featuring the famous Twelve Tower (Zwölferturm), arcades, and the colorful facades of medieval houses. The combination of historic charm and party atmosphere makes Sterzing tanzt! the perfect opportunity not just to dance, but to discover one of the most characteristic villages in South Tyrol.
