The light and music spectacle on the facade of the Hofburg in Bressanone
During the Advent and Christmas season, the historic facade of the Hofburg in Bressanone (Brixen) becomes the natural screen for one of the most evocative video mapping shows in South Tyrol. The Light & Music Show brings the stones of the ancient Episcopal Palace to life with luminous projections, fairy-tale animations, and an original soundtrack, creating an emotional experience lasting about twenty minutes. The show takes place in the municipality of Bressanone, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of the Isarco Valley (Eisacktal), and is organized by Bressanone Tourism.
The power of the Light & Music Show lies in the meeting of technology and storytelling. Images are projected onto the Hofburg facade by a battery of powerful projectors, bringing to life a story told in tableaux: curious creatures, imaginary journeys, distant universes, and fantastic worlds take shape on the palace walls. The visual direction is by the French specialists Spectaculaires – Allumeurs d'Images, while the original soundtrack is composed by the famous South Tyrolean musician Giorgio Moroder, a three-time Oscar winner and master of electronic music.
The Light & Music Show is not just entertainment: for several editions, the show has been linked to a charity project in support of UNICEF. For every ticket sold, a portion is donated to the organization's activities, turning an evening of Christmas magic into a concrete gesture of support. This blend of culture, beauty, and social commitment has become one of the event's hallmarks.
The show is part of the rich holiday program in Bressanone, a city that boasts one of the most characteristic Christmas markets in South Tyrol. After strolling through the stalls and savoring the scents of mulled wine and traditional sweets, residents and visitors gather in the Hofburg courtyard to attend the evening performances. The show lasts about twenty minutes and is offered multiple times each evening in an intimate and familiar atmosphere. It is an experience suitable for all ages, combining the wonder of children with the adults' appreciation for the artistic quality of the projections.
Attending the Light & Music Show is also an opportunity to discover Bressanone, one of the oldest cities in South Tyrol, nestled at the confluence of the Isarco Valley and the Val di Riga. The historic center, with its arcades, the Cathedral, and the frescoed cloister, offers an ideal setting for a winter weekend in Trentino-South Tyrol, amidst tradition, South Tyrolean gastronomy, and Dolomite landscapes.
For the 2026/27 edition, from November 26, 2026, to January 9, 2027, the facade of the Hofburg in Bressanone hosts the new show "Oops 2 – A Light and Music Show for UNICEF". The narrative follows a small, curious creature in search of a red balloon, on a journey through fantastic worlds, the elephant Soliman, festive celebrations, animated works of art, Ancient Egypt, prehistory, and deep space. The original soundtrack is signed by Giorgio Moroder, while the architectural projections are curated by the French artists Spectaculaires.
Evening performances are usually held at 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, with an additional show at 7:30 PM on Saturdays; each projection lasts about twenty minutes. As per tradition, a portion of the ticket proceeds is donated to UNICEF to support its international projects.
Bressanone/Brixen is accessible by train (station on the Brenner line, with connections from Bolzano, Verona, and Innsbruck) and by car via the A22 Brenner motorway, Bressanone exit. The show takes place in the courtyard of the Hofburg (Episcopal Palace), just a few steps from the historic center.
Evening performances are usually held at 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, with an additional show at 7:30 PM on Saturdays. Tickets can be purchased online on the official website and at local points of sale. Children under 9 enter for free; for every ticket sold, a portion is donated to UNICEF.
