The taste of nature in the villages of the Vena del Gesso, in Casola Valsenio
When winter gives way to spring, Casola Valsenio โ a small municipality in the Apennines in the province of Ravenna, in Emilia-Romagna โ celebrates one of its most iconic products: the Marzolino truffle, also known as Bianchetto. The Spring Truffle Festival, organized by the Pro Loco of Casola Valsenio since its first edition in 2014, enlivens the historic center of the village for an entire day, effectively opening the season of local events.
Less famous and less expensive than the prized Tuber magnatum (the white truffle of Alba), the Marzolino truffle is the protagonist of this land historically dedicated to truffle hunting. Versatile in the kitchen, it flavors numerous traditional dishes of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines. The festival was created precisely to promote this excellence and the work of the Casola truffle hunters, who gather every year for demonstrations and friendly competitions.
The day combines different aspects: the truffle market exhibition and local products in the historic center, the food stand managed by the Pro Loco with a menu entirely based on truffles, nature walks along the trails of the Regional Park of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and numerous activities for children. There are also wooden games, truffle dog hunting demonstrations, and a treasure hunt for the little ones.
Amidst the aromas from the stands, the afternoon music, and the welcoming atmosphere of an authentic Apennine village, the Spring Truffle Festival is a perfect opportunity to discover Casola Valsenio and its territory, also known for the famous Herb Garden and its naturalistic vocation. An event that combines good food, outdoor walks, and Romagnol folk tradition.
The 2026 edition of the Spring Truffle Festival was held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in the historic center of Casola Valsenio, with a day full of events combining nature, taste, and tradition. The novelty of the year was the first Valerio Pedoni Memorial, with a truffle hunting demonstration with dogs and a competition among Casola truffle hunters.
In case of bad weather, the festival is postponed to Sunday, March 15.
