The great festival of the Romagna rural world in Imola
The Santerno Agricultural Fair is one of the most cherished events of the Imola summer: a weekend entirely dedicated to agriculture, livestock, and the gastronomic excellences of the territory. Organized by the Municipality of Imola, the event takes place in the park of the Sante Zennaro Complex, on Via Pirandello, and attracts thousands of visitors, breeders, producers, and families from all over Romagna and beyond every year.
The name recalls the Santerno river, which flows through the Imola valley and has shaped its agricultural vocation for centuries. The fair was created precisely to enhance this deep bond between the community and its land, focusing on native breeds, typical products, and farming knowledge passed down through generations.
The heart of the event is the livestock exhibitions, which have made the Santerno Fair the largest of its kind in Emilia-Romagna. The absolute stars are the native Romagna breeds, protected by the ARVAR-SIRA association: the Romagnolo Donkey, the Romagnolo Cattle, and the Italian Agricultural Horse TPR, alongside sheep, goats, farmyard animals, and sheepdogs.
Among the initiatives that have contributed to the fair's success are the interregional exhibitions dedicated to Romagna breeds, the donkey biodiversity parades, live milking demonstrations, and equestrian shows like the famous Gran Galร del Somaro (Great Donkey Gala).
In addition to the animals, the fair features a large trade fair with agricultural companies, nursery owners, artisans, craft breweries, and historical food festival committees from the area. There are also exhibitions of vintage and modern agricultural machinery, taste workshops, educational activities for children, and meetings dedicated to biodiversity and short supply chains.
The catering area is one of the strong points: here you can taste traditional Romagna dishes, prepared with local ingredients, emphasizing quality and zero kilometers. A delicious showcase that tells the gastronomic identity of Imola, bite by bite.
With its free admission and a program that alternates shows, exhibitions, demonstrations, and educational moments, the Santerno Agricultural Fair is a perfect day out for families, country enthusiasts, and the curious. A festival that, year after year, confirms how alive and vibrant the bond between Imola and its rural world still is.
The 14th edition of the Santerno Agricultural Fair is scheduled from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, 2026, in the park of the Sante Zennaro Complex in Imola, province of Bologna. Organized by the Municipality of Imola, the event confirms its proven formula: livestock exhibitions dedicated to native Romagna breeds, trade fairs for plants, flowers, agri-food products, and agricultural machinery, taste workshops, live demonstrations, and a rich catering area with local dishes.
