The historic centre of Poppi transforms into a giant sports village
For an entire day, the historic centre of Poppi, one of the most beautiful villages in the Casentino area of Arezzo province, transforms into a true open-air gym. The Sports Day with CONI was born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Poppi, CONI Tuscany, and the CONI Provincial Committee of Arezzo, with the involvement of the Permanent Sports Council, local sports associations, AAP Ponte a Poppi, and the Pro Loco.
The town's squares and monuments become the stages for a large-scale, widespread event: at the foot of and inside the famous Castello dei Conti Guidi, visitors can try archery, dance, yoga, golf, and gymnastics; other squares host athletics, mountain biking, combat sports, football, volleyball, tennis, and basketball, alongside information booths and demonstrations by local associations.
The heart of the event is the opportunity to try dozens of disciplines for free under the guidance of qualified instructors. Children, teenagers, and adults can explore a wide variety of sports throughout the day, discovering the many active associations in the Casentino region.
The day focuses on the values of inclusion, participation, and prevention. Within this framework, the project "Tutti IN pista, Tutti IN campo" (Everyone on the track, everyone on the field) is dedicated to sports practice for young people with intellectual disabilities, carried out in collaboration with Campaldino Tennis and Atletica Casentino. Completing the institutional programme is a free seminar on Safeguarding and the prevention of abuse in sport, aimed at sports club managers and coaches.
Visiting Poppi during the Sports Day is also the perfect opportunity to discover one of the best-preserved medieval historic centres in Tuscany, dominated by the unmistakable silhouette of the Castello dei Conti Guidi. The event thus combines sports promotion, community life, and the enhancement of the village's historical heritage.
The first Sports Day with CONI brought the historic centre of Poppi to life on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a packed programme spread across the squares and monuments of the Casentino village. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Poppi with CONI Tuscany and the CONI Provincial Committee of Arezzo, combined sport, inclusion, and community life.
The historic centre of Poppi was divided into thematic areas dedicated to different disciplines:
Highlights of the day:
Throughout the day, there was also space for first aid demonstrations, dog training, postural gymnastics, and motorcycle safety.
The event takes place in the spring in the historic centre of Poppi, with continuous hours from morning until late afternoon.
Poppi can be reached by car via the SR71 Casentinese road; by train, it is served by the Casentinese Railway line (La Ferroviaria Italiana) with a stop in Poppi. The village is approximately 35 km from Arezzo.
Participation in the activities and sports trials is free, as is the seminar on Safeguarding for managers and coaches.
