About AVIS Montevarchi Cycle Tour

The AVIS City of Montevarchi Cycle Tour is a major non-competitive cycling event that draws hundreds of enthusiasts to the heart of the Valdarno Aretino every September. Featuring three routes of varying difficulty, all open to e-bikes and handbikes, the event winds through the hills between Pratomagno and Chianti, starting from the historic center of Montevarchi. Organized by the AVIS Sports Group, it combines sport, solidarity, and the discovery of the Tuscan landscape.

A ride through the heart of Valdarno

The AVIS City of Montevarchi Cycle Tour has become a staple of the cycling calendar in Tuscany. As a non-competitive cycling event held in Montevarchi, a key town in the Valdarno Aretino area of the province of Arezzo, it gathers hundreds of participants from central Italy and beyond every year. It is organized by the AVIS Montevarchi Sports Group, which is affiliated with the blood donor association, making this event a unique opportunity to pair a passion for cycling with the values of solidarity.

Three routes for every level

The charm of the event lies in the variety of its tracks, designed to accommodate both seasoned cyclists and those looking for a more leisurely ride. Three routes are available:

  • Long Route: approximately 129 km with an elevation gain of nearly 1,850 meters, reserved for the most experienced riders;
  • Medium Route: approximately 84 km with 1,000 meters of elevation gain;
  • Short Route: approximately 67 km with 530 meters of elevation gain, perfect for those who want to enjoy the scenery without excessive difficulty.

The tracks wind through the hills of Pratomagno and Chianti, passing by ancient villages, historic parish churches, and sections of the ancient Etruscan-Roman Cassia Vetus road, offering a succession of views that showcase the beauty of the Valdarno Aretino. E-bikes and handbikes are also welcome, highlighting the inclusive nature of the initiative.

An event linking sport, tourism, and the region

More than just a race, the AVIS Cycle Tour is a celebration of the local area. The 2025 edition saw a record turnout of about 600 cyclists, with over seventy sports clubs represented and participants arriving from as far as Calabria, Puglia, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The Municipality of Montevarchi supports the event, which brings visibility and tourism to the whole of eastern Tuscany.

A special 2026 edition

The 2026 edition, scheduled for Sunday, September 13, holds special significance: it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the founding of AVIS Montevarchi. The event is also a qualifying stage for the Tuscan Cycle Touring Championship, a testament to the prestige the event has achieved on the regional stage.
