The nocturnal itinerant show in the village of Spoltore
SPELT – The Night of Witches and Vampires is an itinerant theatrical event that brings the historic center of Spoltore, a town in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, to life every July. Born from the creativity of the VentoNotturno Arte Eventi association, the show transforms the alleys and squares of the village into a widespread stage, where the audience moves freely, following the eternal struggle between good and evil.
The format is that of site-specific theater: seven fixed stations distributed throughout the historic center activate simultaneously every twenty to thirty minutes, allowing spectators to follow individual episodes of the plot by moving from one point to another at their own pace. Each episode is independent, so there is no need to watch them in exact sequence: you can enter the story at any time, with no booking required.
The artistic direction is led by Giuseppe Iannascoli, author and director of the show, who weaves historical and geographical references of the territory with a fantasy component. The unique feature of SPELT is that the plot evolves with each edition, picking up from the previous finale, much like the seasons of a television series: those who return each year find familiar characters and discover how the story continues.
With its distinctly dark and evocative atmosphere, SPELT attracts thousands of spectators from across Abruzzo and has become one of the most anticipated events of the Spoltore summer. The event enhances the heritage of Spoltore's historic center, inviting residents and visitors to rediscover alleys, squares, and views of the village in a fresh, magical, and immersive light.
The Night of Witches and Vampires returns to Spoltore on Saturday, July 18, 2026. The VentoNotturno Arte Eventi association brings back the itinerant theater format that has captivated thousands of spectators: seven fixed stations in the historic center, processions of good and evil characters, and a dark fantasy tale that continues from the previous edition's finale. The detailed program, including times and artists, will be communicated by the organizers closer to the date.
The show unfolds along the alleys and squares of the historic center of Spoltore (PE), with the epilogue in Largo San Giovanni.
Spoltore is just a few kilometers from Pescara and the Pescara Ovest-Chieti motorway exit (A25). It is easily reached by car from Pescara; on the nights of the event, it is recommended to park in the areas outside the historic center, which is closed to traffic.
The event is free and does not require reservations. There is a food and drink station in Largo San Giovanni.
