International festival of contemporary art and culture between Atri and Pescara
Stills of Peace and Everyday Life is an international festival dedicated to contemporary art and culture, promoted by the ARIA Foundation in collaboration with the municipalities of Atri and Pescara. Established in 2014, each edition builds a dialogue between Italy and a guest country, inviting artists, curators, writers, and directors to engage with a major contemporary theme. The festival is historically based in the village of Atri, in the province of Teramo, in the heart of Abruzzo, and extends to nearby Pescara, on the Adriatic Sea.
The thirteenth edition, scheduled from July 4 to October 3, 2026, features Argentina as the guest country, with the theme of Global Identity, chosen by artistic director Giovanna Dello Iacono. It is the third chapter of a triptych dedicated to Latin America, following Mexico (2024) and Colombia (2025). The reflection revolves around the concept of identity in a globalized world, touching upon roots, memory, and belonging.
The festival kicks off with Ma.Co., the Contemporary Marathon, from July 4 to 6, 2026, featuring five exhibitions, eleven artists, and five curators. The inauguration is set for Saturday, July 4, at 6:00 PM in the Cloister of the Palazzo Ducale dei Duchi d'Acquaviva in Atri. The Cisterne of Palazzo Acquaviva will host the Global Identity exhibition, curated by Giovanna Dello Iacono and Maria Letizia Paiato with works by Luciana Lamothe and Nicola Samorì, as well as Stills of Peace for Young, dedicated to young artists. The palace halls will also feature Rodolfo Zanni. Notes from Oblivion, a tribute to the Atri-born composer who bridged Italy and Argentina.
The festival is set against the backdrop of Atri, one of the most beautiful villages in Abruzzo, known for its Cathedral, its badlands (calanchi), and Palazzo Acquaviva. The event reaffirms the commitment of the Municipality of Atri and the Abruzzo Region as places of cultural encounter, where contemporary art engages with centuries of historical heritage.
The 13th edition is dedicated to Argentina and the theme of Global Identity. The festival opens with Ma.Co., the Contemporary Marathon (July 4-6) featuring five exhibitions and eleven artists. At Palazzo Acquaviva in Atri, the highlights include the exhibitions Global Identity (with Luciana Lamothe and Nicola Samorì), Stills of Peace for Young, and Rodolfo Zanni. Notes from Oblivion. In Pescara, the photography exhibition The Same, the Different is hosted at the s.l.m.00 space, and from September 5, Oh Mother! by Martina Marini Misterioso will be at the Church of Sant'Anna.
The program is completed by Cine Argentina, a series of Argentine films in the original language, and Stills Story, a cycle of literary meetings with Argentine authors.
Atri is located in the province of Teramo, in the hilly hinterland of Abruzzo, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Atri-Pineto exit) and the A24. The reference train station is Pineto-Atri, on the Adriatic line, which is connected to the historic center by bus. Pescara, the festival's second venue, has an airport and a train station.
Exhibitions in Atri are generally open daily from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Venues in Pescara have reduced hours, often by appointment. We recommend checking hours, admission, and booking details on the official website stillsofpeace.com or by emailing [email protected].
