A celebration of the Salento tarallo in the Public Gardens of Latiano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Salento, in Latiano (Province of Brindisi), the Spaccatella Festival is one of the tastiest summer events on the local calendar. Organized by the APS La Terra association, the event transforms the Public Gardens of Piazza Cosimo Rubino into a large, convivial space where you can taste traditional Apulian country dishes, dance the pizzica, and rediscover the flavors of the past.
The spaccatella is one of the many Apulian variations of the durum wheat tarallo: a dough baked in the oven, cut in half, and baked a second time to make it crunchy and long-lasting. Before being enjoyed, it is moistened with a splash of water and seasoned simply with fresh tomato, extra virgin olive oil, salt, and oregano. It is the food of the fields and the Salento farmers—humble yet rich in flavor—which the festival celebrates as the absolute star of the evening.
Beyond the gastronomy, the festival offers folk music and dancing: the Salento tradition of pizzica and taranta accompanies the evening, involving both adults and children in a contagious festive atmosphere. The event is designed for all ages, with a family-friendly vibe that brings residents and visitors together around tables set up amidst the greenery of the city gardens.
The heart of the festival is the Public Gardens of Latiano, overlooking Piazza Cosimo Rubino, a green space in the town center that is easily accessible on foot. Latiano is centrally located in the Province of Brindisi, in northern Salento, a short distance from Mesagne, Oria, and San Vito dei Normanni.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers. The festival is traditionally held in the summer, usually in June. To find out the exact day and the program, it is best to follow the channels of the APS La Terra and the Municipality of Latiano, which usually release details in the weeks leading up to the event.
