The festival that kicks off summer in Casale Marittimo, in the heart of the Pisan Maremma
In the heart of the Pisan Maremma, perched on a hill overlooking the Cecina Valley and the sea, the village of Casale Marittimo, in the province of Pisa, hosts one of the most beloved festivals of the Tuscan coast: the Snail Festival. It is the event that officially kicks off the village's summer, welcoming tourists and serving as a gathering point for the entire community.
Returning in 2026 for a new edition, the festival takes place at the Parco del Tamburello, the green space just outside the historic center, animated for the occasion by food stalls, open-air dining, and live music.
The dish around which the entire festival revolves is the snail, one of the oldest specialties of the local peasant cuisine. The snails are prepared according to the traditional recipe and, above all, in the famous snail cacciucco, a rich and fragrant land-based version of the Livorno classic that attracts enthusiasts from all over the region every year.
For several editions now, the Snail Festival has distinguished itself by its focus on sustainability: the event uses eco-friendly tableware and products to reduce its environmental impact, a detail that fits perfectly with the rural and genuine vocation of the village.
The festival is also the perfect opportunity to visit Casale Marittimo, listed among the most charming villages in Tuscany, with its concentric alleys, medieval walls, and panoramic views that stretch to the coast. The Municipality of Casale Marittimo and the Pro Loco coordinate the event together with the Festival Committee associations, in a spirit of volunteerism and hospitality that is the true hallmark of village festivals in Tuscany.
Between one course and another, amidst music and conversation under the stars, the Snail Festival remains one of those events that captures the most authentic soul of the province of Pisa.
The Snail Festival returns to Casale Marittimo on July 18 and 19, 2026, at Parco del Tamburello, confirming its status as the event that kicks off the summer in this Pisan Maremma village.
For this edition as well, snails will be the stars, from the classic snail cacciucco to roasted cockerel, accompanied by live music and the commitment to sustainability that characterizes the event. The full program with times and evening details will be released by the Pro Loco of Casale Marittimo closer to the event.
