Lucanian green gold is tasted directly under the olive trees
There is a unique way to truly get to know extra virgin olive oil: taste it where it is born, under the silvery canopy of the olive trees. This is the idea behind Merenda nell'Oliveta, the initiative promoted by the National Association of the Cities of Oil which, in Palazzo San Gervasio—a village in the Vulture-Alto Bradano area in the province of Potenza, recognized as a City of Oil—becomes a true widespread celebration of Lucanian green gold.
The heart of the event is the guided tasting of extra virgin olive oil directly in the olive grove, accompanied by experts who discuss the product's cultivars, aromas, and properties. A rich program is built around this moment: meetings with industry leaders, literary readings, sunset aperitifs, cooking shows, and live music. The collective ritual of preparing bruschetta, a simple gesture that becomes a symbol of sharing, is not to be missed.
The event is part of the national circuit promoted by Città dell'Olio and highlights the deep connection between Palazzo San Gervasio and olive cultivation, an integral part of the landscape and economy of the Alto Bradano region. Promoted with the support of the territory and the GAL Lucus, Merenda nell'Oliveta is an invitation to immerse yourself in nature and rediscover olive oil as a cultural heritage before it is a gastronomic one.
The 6th edition of Merenda nell'Oliveta is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Palazzo San Gervasio. The chosen theme is "L'Olio della Repubblica" (The Oil of the Republic), in homage to the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic: a common thread linking the country's history to that of its agricultural landscape and extra virgin olive oil. The event is promoted by the National Association of the Cities of Oil with the support of GAL Lucus and the municipalities of Alto Bradano and Vulture.
