The flavours and food and wine excellences of Venosa and Vulture
The Festival del Gusto Città di Venosa is the late-summer event dedicated to the food and wine excellences of Basilicata. Organised by the municipal administration, it enlivens the historic centre of Venosa with a journey through authentic flavours, traditions, and typical products of the Vulture territory.
The true king of the event is the crusco pepper, the famous dried and fried pepper from Basilicata, featured in many preparations — from pizza to legume dishes, to rustic sandwiches. Alongside it are artisanal honey, typical cured meats like lucanica and porchetta, artisanal beers from Vulture, and, of course, Aglianico del Vulture, the region's great red wine.
The festival offers tastings and showcookings of typical dishes, food and wine stands from local producers, craft markets, live music, itinerant shows, and workshops for adults and children. A format that combines the promotion of Lucanian products with the pleasure of a village festival, in the heart of one of Italy's most beautiful villages.
The event is also an opportunity to discover Venosa, the birthplace of the poet Horace, with its extraordinary heritage: the Abbey of the Santissima Trinità, the Archaeological Park, and the Pirro del Balzo Castle. A journey that combines taste, culture, and beauty.
The Festival del Gusto Città di Venosa returns from 25 to 27 September 2026 in the historic centre. The event celebrates the food and wine excellences of the territory, with the crusco pepper in the foreground, accompanied by artisanal honey, cured meats like lucanica, artisanal Vulture beers and Aglianico del Vulture.
