A contemporary, theatrical living nativity scene winding through the streets of Lundo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Shalom - Peace is a contemporary, theatrical living nativity that comes to life every year in the days after Christmas in the village of Lundo, part of the municipality of Comano Terme in the heart of the Giudicarie Valleys, Trentino-Alto Adige. For a few evenings, the streets and ancient houses of the village light up, becoming the backdrop for a Nativity scene that is never a static re-enactment, but a true theatrical journey where visitors walk right into the story.
Over fifty performers from across the Giudicarie region, joined by professional actors, bring the story to life, tracing the journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The theatrical direction blends various performing arts: acting, video mapping, digital projections, light installations, and narration intertwine along the route, creating a living, ever-evolving nativity. Each edition is built around a central theme—from water as a common good to the "Intertwining and Bonds" of the most recent edition—with the message of peace, evoked by the Hebrew title "Shalom," remaining the common thread of the entire event.
Along the route, the public encounters artisan stalls showcasing traditional crafts, mountain huts and taverns serving hot traditional food, as well as storytelling corners and performances for all ages. The intimate atmosphere of the mountain village, the crisp winter air, and the lights illuminating the ancient stone create a captivating setting that blends spirituality, community warmth, and folk culture.
Shalom is organized by the Pro Loco Lundo "Sùbit Fat" with the involvement of the entire community and the collaboration of local cultural entities like the Ecomuseo della Judicaria and various Trentino theater companies. The event, which is supported by the Autonomous Province of Trento, has established itself as one of the most original Christmas appointments in Trentino, drawing thousands of visitors thanks to its unique blend of faith, contemporary theater, and a strong sense of belonging.
To promote sustainable mobility and protect the small village, access to the event is exclusively via free shuttle buses departing from collection points in Ponte Arche and Dasindo. Admission to the event is free.
