The non-competitive walk through the trails of the Reggiano Apennines
The Carpineti stage is part of Sentieri Comuni, the traveling project of non-competitive walks that from April to October crosses the Apennines between the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Modena. In Carpineti, a village in the province of Reggio Emilia dominated by the famous Pieve di San Vitale and the remains of the Castello delle Carpinete linked to the figure of Matilde di Canossa, the event is set for Sunday, August 30, 2026.
This is not a race: the idea behind the entire project is to walk together to unite territories, stories, and communities. The Carpineti route, like all stages of the event, is between 6 and 10 kilometers long, with a maximum duration of about three hours and no particular technical difficulties. It is therefore suitable for families, occasional walkers, and anyone who wants to discover the trails and panoramas of the Reggiano ridge at a leisurely pace.
In 2026, it reaches its fourth edition. Sentieri Comuni was born from the collaboration of a network of associations, Pro Loco, sports clubs, and walking groups from the involved municipalities — including Sassuolo, Casalgrande, Castellarano, Baiso, Toano, Carpineti, Palagano, Frassinoro, Polinago, and Lama Mocogno. Every Sunday, the caravan of walkers moves to a different municipality, and in Carpineti, the walk is managed by local volunteers. Uniting the various stages is also a small "passport" to be stamped with each participation, turning the season into a collection journey.
Along the route, participants are accompanied by staff from the organizing association, who know the trails and highlight the most beautiful views of the Carpineti area. At the end of the walk, as is tradition for the project, refreshments are offered to all registered participants, a convivial moment that concludes the morning and strengthens the community spirit that gives the event its name.
On August 30, 2026, Carpineti hosts one of the stages of the fourth edition of Sentieri Comuni. The non-competitive walk winds for 6-10 kilometers along the trails of the Reggiano ridge, with a maximum duration of about three hours and no technical difficulties.
Participants are accompanied by volunteers from local associations, with refreshments offered at the end of the route. Participation costs 5 euros, free for children up to 14 years old.
Details of the route, meeting point, and times for the Carpineti stage will be published in the official project booklet and on the website www.sentiericomuni.it in the weeks preceding the event.
