The cultural heart of Modena's Summer in Sant'Agostino Square
In the heart of summer, Piazza Sant'Agostino in Modena transforms into the city's cultural lounge. The SantAGOstino. A Square for Culture event series stems from the project to enhance the area between the Palazzo dei Musei and the AGO complex - Fabbriche Culturali, the former Sant'Agostino Hospital intended to become a large museum and creative hub. The space, completely pedestrianized and accessible, hosts an audience area with over two hundred seats and features evenings that are always free admission.
The program intertwines different languages: singer-songwriter and light music concerts, theatrical performances, literary readings and narratives, talks with cultural and entertainment guests, and cine-concerts and screenings under the stars. More than fifty events designed for different audiences, alongside the Ago Off section, dedicated to performances, meetings, and discussions in the spaces of the AGO Foundation.
The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Modena as part of the Modena Summer program, with the support of the Fondazione di Modena, the AGO Foundation, and other local partners. The square, located in the historic center of the Emilian city, the capital of the homonymous Province in Emilia-Romagna, confirms itself as one of the symbolic places of the city's summer, a short walk from the UNESCO World Heritage Duomo and the Ghirlandina.
The shows generally start at 9:30 PM in June, July, and August, then move to 9:00 PM in the latter part of the season as the days get shorter. The pedestrian and accessible setup makes the square a meeting point for families, young people, and culture enthusiasts.
After its 2025 debut, the SantAGOstino. A Square for Culture event series returns in 2026, reaffirming itself as the cultural heart of Modena's Summer. The season opens on Sunday, June 21 at 9:30 PM with the Music Festival and continues until the second half of September, with over fifty events in a completely pedestrianized and accessible square.
The program alternates different registers and languages – concerts, theatre, talks, and cine-concerts – alongside the Ago Off section. Admission is always free, with an audience area of over two hundred seats.
