Two Sundays in November dedicated to the truffles of the Reggiano Apennines
Every autumn, the hamlet of Cavola, in the municipality of Toano (province of Reggio Emilia), becomes the truffle capital of the Reggiano Apennines. The Cavola Truffle Festival, organized by the Pro Loco Cavola since 1988, takes place over two Sundays in November and attracts visitors from all over Emilia-Romagna and beyond, drawn by the unmistakable aroma of the prized tuber and the traditional mountain cuisine.
The heart of the festival is the CavolaForum, where the Pro Loco sets up food stalls and welcomes guests with a menu entirely dedicated to truffles and mushrooms. Among the most popular dishes are truffle risotto, truffle and mushroom lasagna, mushroom escalopes with truffle aroma, and braised meat with truffle polenta. Along the village streets, a market unfolds, featuring stalls selling truffles, Parmigiano Reggiano, mushrooms, and herbal products, as well as creations by artisans working with leather, wood, stone, and embroidery.
The Truffle Festival is not just an event for food lovers. During the two days, visitors can explore the mycological exhibition dedicated to mushrooms, the vintage car exhibition, and participate in guided excursions to discover the treasures of the area, such as the "Sui passi dei Ceccati" walk. There will also be live music from the Banda di Cavola and the Ottoni Matildici brass band, entertainment and games for children, cycling tours, and evening nature events. A program designed for the whole family, combining taste, culture, and popular traditions.
Nestled in the hills rising towards the Tuscan-Emilian ridge, Cavola is a hamlet of Toano immersed in oak and chestnut woods where truffles find their ideal habitat. The festival is also an opportunity to discover this authentic corner of the Reggiano Apennines, its churches, its flavors, and the warm hospitality of the local community, which has enthusiastically renewed this tradition for over thirty years.
The 2026 edition of the Cavola Truffle Festival, the 38th, will be held on Sunday, November 8th and Sunday, November 15th, 2026, confirming the traditional formula of two Sundays in November. The date is reported by the official event calendar of the Municipality of Toano.
For 2026, the Pro Loco Cavola will again offer at CavolaForum the menu based on truffles and mushrooms with typical mountain cuisine dishes, while the market for truffles, Parmigiano Reggiano, and crafts will return along the village streets. The detailed program, with times, excursions, exhibitions, and entertainment, will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by Pro Loco Cavola in the weeks before the festival. Based on recent editions, the two Sundays typically include:
