The Sclafani Bagni Wine & Food Festival is a food and wine celebration held in Sclafani Bagni, a small thermal village within the Madonie Park in the province of Palermo, Sicily. Created to showcase one of the most picturesque and intimate towns in the Palermo hinterland, the event transforms the town's historic landmarks into a vibrant trail dedicated to wine, fine dining, and local specialties.
The festival unfolds across several iconic village locations. The former Badia di Santa Chiara monastery hosts chef-led cooking demonstrations, while the ancient medieval castle provides the backdrop for wine masterclasses. The evening concludes in Piazza Piersanti Mattarella with a grand finale concert. Between tastings, visitors can stroll through the historic center and discover the famous Sclafani thermal baths, fed by sulfurous waters that flow at approximately 30 degrees Celsius.
The heart of the event lies in the marriage of cuisine and wine. Cooking shows pair local chefs and Michelin-starred Sicilian talent with the island's leading wineries, featuring dishes specifically designed to complement the wines on offer. The wine masterclasses, moderated by industry journalists, delve into native grape varieties, terroir, and the production philosophies of the guest wineries.
Beyond the tastings, the program features talks dedicated to local entrepreneurship and success stories from the Madonie region, exhibition stands with food producers and artisans, guided village tours, and visits to the thermal baths. The day wraps up with an evening concert in the square, drawing residents and visitors from across the Madonie area.
Promoted by the Municipality of Sclafani Bagni with the support of local partners, the festival aims to establish the village as a gourmet capital of the Madonie, uniting gastronomy, landscape, and historical heritage. It is a unique opportunity to discover an authentic corner of inland Sicily, far from the beaten path, where wine and food become tools for regional development.
